🎬🌈 QUEERTAWE: The Documentary + PRIDE: Special Screening 🌈🎬

Join us for an unforgettable double-bill celebrating q***r creativity, community and solidarity!

✨ QUEERTAWE: The Documentary (2025) Free to join starting at 6PM
An intergenerational LGBTQ+ project in Swansea comes to life on screen. Through candid interviews and creative workshops, participants—young and old—share what “q***r belonging” truly means, how safe, sober spaces fuel their art and why chosen family is everything.

🍿 PRIDE (2014) £3 a ticket starting at 7pm
Before marriage equality and mainstream acceptance, LGBTQ+ activists in London came together to support striking Welsh miners. Based on a remarkable true story, PRIDE is a joyous, rollicking tribute to solidarity and the power of standing up for one another.

Don’t miss this inspiring journey—from intimate local stories to a landmark tale of solidarity.

PRIDE (2014)
It’s the summer of 1984 – Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and le***an activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support.

Undeterred, the activists load up a minibus and head straight to a mining village in deepest Wales to hand over their donation in person. What follows is an extraordinary tale of two very different communities uniting in laughter, love and triumph. ❤️✊

Comisiynau Unigol 2026

The Shape of Things to Come (Y Ffenestr)

Galwad am Geisiadau

Lle: Abertawe
Pryd: Yr Hydref 2026
Hyd: Pythefnos
Ffi Artist: £1700
Gwnewch gais erbyn: 20 Mehefin

Rydym yn croesawu cynigion i greu gwaith yn y Gymraeg.

Mae Volcano yn bwriadu unwaith eto comisiynu pum pherfformiwr i wneud perfformiadau byr unigol (tua 30 munud) yn ein lleoliad yn Stryd Fawr Abertawe dros bythefnos. Dyma bedwaredd flwyddyn y gyfres gomisiwn llawrydd hon, a ddechreuodd yn 2022 fel Solo Duets for the Future. Y syniad y tu ôl i’r prosiect hwn yw annog perfformwyr i ddatblygu dulliau perfformio newydd o flaen cynulleidfaoedd bach brwdfrydig.

Blwyddyn Y Ffenestr yw hon. Mae ffenestri mawr ein galeri yn wynebu'r stryd ar ddwy ochr – mae'r blaen yn edrych allan ar Stryd Fawr brysur Abertawe gyda'i phalmant llydan, a'r ochr ar lôn i gerddwyr. Rhaid i'ch perfformiad ddefnyddio'r ffenestr hon. Efallai y bydd eich perfformiad ar gyfer pobl sy'n mynd heibio, neu efallai y byddai'n well gennych wahodd cynulleidfa i mewn…

Byddwn yn chwilio am bum darn sy’n defnyddio’r set mewn ffyrdd gwahanol gan ddefnyddio eich dychymyg. Mae croeso i chi seilio’r perfformiad ar unrhyw beth o’ch dewis, ond (yr un fath â thymhorau blaenorol) byddwn yn chwilio am waith sy’n agored yn hytrach na’n fewnol, sy’n cyfathrebu â chynulleidfaoedd, ac sy’n edrych tuag at y dyfodol yn hytrach na datglymu’r gorffennol.

Darllenwch yr FAQs cyn gwneud cais, os gwelwch yn dda. Pan fyddwch chi'n barod, gwnewch gais. Os oes gennych gwestiwn nad yw'n cael ei ateb yn yr FAQs, cysylltwch â ni i ymholi.

Solo Commissions 2026

The Shape of Things to Come (The Window)

Callout for Applications

Where: Swansea
When: Autumn 2026
Duration of commission: 2 weeks
Artist Fee: £1700
Apply by: 20 June

Volcano is looking once again to commission five performers to make individual short performances (around 30 minutes) over a fortnight at our Swansea High Street venue. This is the fifth year of this freelance commission series, which began in 2022 as Solo Duets for the Future. The idea behind this initiative is to encourage performers to develop new performance modes in front of small, enthusiastic audiences.

This is the year of The Window. Our large gallery windows face the street on two sides – the front looks out onto the busy Swansea High Street with its wide pavement, and the side onto a pedestrianised lane. Your performance must use this window. Your performance might be for passers-by, or you might prefer to invite an audience into the space…

We’ll be looking for five pieces that use the space, and its relationship with the street, in different and imaginative ways. The performance can be about anything you wish, but (as in previous seasons) we will be looking for work that looks outward (literally or otherwise) rather than in, that communicates with audiences in surprising ways, that eschews nostalgia and navel-gazing, and that points to the future rather than dissecting the past. This is the place for utopias and dystopias, for dreams of the future, and for encountering one another in new ways.

Please read the FAQs before applying! When you’re ready, please submit your idea. If you have a question that isn’t answered in the FAQs, please drop us a line with your queries.
