Today we are going to look at this joint event in more detail and in particular the Swansea Youth Choir.

About the choir:
Swansea Youth Choir is a vibrant and inclusive ensemble bringing together young singers from all over Swansea who share a passion for music and performance. Now in its third term since forming in September 2025, the choir provides valuable opportunities for children to develop their choral singing, supporting the rich tradition of choral music in Wales.
Cerys Wendon is the founder and Musical Director of Swansea Youth Choir, combining a passion for choral music with extensive experience as a music educator and leader in education in both the primary and secondary sectors.

We at the MOC are really looking forward to this concert and hope you can join us there.
The combination of one of the oldest and youngest choirs in Swansea will create a memorable event for all.

Tickets will also be available at the door for any last minute decisions.

You don't want to miss this one.

What a great social evening. Organised by our Social secretary Rob Richards, with the aid of Adrian Chard. Superb food at the Raj Kitchen Swansea, and faultless service.
Highlight of the evening, presentation of a life membership award to the one and only Mr Ieuan Jones, for his services to the choir after more than ten years of service as assistant musical director and accompanist .

Evenings like these form a huge part of the choir. The social aspect reflects on how the coming together of like minded people is a joy to behold. We all share a common love of music and singing, and it doesn't matter if you are a billionaire or a bin man/woman, all that counts is that you enjoy what you do and become a small cog in a glorious wheel.

Huge thanks to the Raj Kitchen, I'm sure you will be seeing us again.

Our regular Friday feature will return this week after the Easter break, but a couple of worthy points before that.
Firstly our MOC Ladies have once again raised money for a worthy cause. This time they have raised ยฃ300 for Ty Olwen. The Ladies are an absolute credit to us and tireless in their fundraising for the community.
Linda Davies, Lorraine Dyer and Karen Richards... We salute you.

Our AGM was held at the beginning of April, where another great year for the choir was reviewed.
A significant point was the handing over of Chairman duties from Keith Phillips to Colin Johnson. Keith has made a significant impact on choir and is handing over a ship in good order to Colin.

Colin was born in Maesteg in April 1948, married to Jill with two Daughters Heather and Kathryn, and one Grandson Thomas.
Colin started work in Felifran Colliery in 1963 before joining the Royal Navy in 1965, where he served for 10 years.

Colin then served in the Royal Navy Reserves for 26 years, leaving in June 2003 as Chief Petty Officer after having been awarded MBE in 1998.
Colin joined us in 2007 as second tenor and has held the posts of General Secretary, Overseas events , Section Registrar and Transport Officer.

Today is a quadruple celebration for us! ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽถ

First, a massive Happy 80th Birthday to Mansel! ๐ŸŽ‚ Mansel has been a stalwart first tenor for nearly 30 yearsโ€”a true pillar of our sound and a legend in our ranks. ๐ŸŽคโœจ

Second, we are celebrating Johnโ€™s Birthday! ๐ŸŽˆ Whilst he might be too young to remember the "glory days," he represents the bright future of everything we do. ๐ŸŒŸ

Third, we are thrilled to announce that John has also been officially accepted as a standing member of the Morriston Orpheus Choir! ๐ŸŽผ๐Ÿ™Œ

Finally, it is also the birthday of our new Chair - Colin Johnson - who will lead us into uncharted territories!

These are three wonderful men who deserve our deepest thanks and praise. From our seasoned veterans to our rising stars, it is people like Mansel, Colin, and John who keep the music alive! ๐ŸŽนโค๏ธ

Well, what can I say about last week's tour. Firstly, a massive thank you to the Sonara Singers for the superb joint concert at Cavendish hall. The Ladies sang beautifully and the joint choir finale of ' You Raise Me Up' was really something to behold.
A special mention to the vocal talent of MD Nicola Hunt who blew everyone away with an outstanding solo performance, as did Lorna Flear with a mesmerising solo piano piece.

On then to the Saturday night, where upon we joined the Mansfield Male Voice choir at Mansfield rugby club. Both choirs performed a set and then we combined for three songs. What can I say, for us to come to England and listen to you lads singing some songs in Welsh, just incredible, and the respect shown by over 350 crowd members to stand whilst both choirs sung the Welsh national anthem, just breath taking.

The whole weekend from start to finish was unforgettably amazing, the welcome we received was second to none, a huge huge thank you to everyone involved.

It is occasions like this, where people come together for the pure joy of music, that truly reminds me of why I joined the choir. There is nothing like listening to voices in harmony, performing music for music's sake.
If I had to sum it up in one word, that word would be ' Glorious'.

Happy Easter to everyone, let's spread a little joy and love at this time. Lord knows the world could do with it right now.

Peace and Love.

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy 80th Birthday, Haydn Davies! ๐ŸŽ‰

First Tenor, Haydn, joined in 1998. We had the privilege to sing him Happy Birthday on Saturday, when he joined us on stage in Mansfield.

We've had the joy of celebrating so many significant birthdays recently, and there will be more to come. Please join us in making his day even more special than it already is.

Cheers to you, Haydn! ๐ŸŽถโœจ

Here we have our chairman Keith Phillips presenting an embroidered Orpheus shield to Helen Beresford, chair of the Sonara Singers.

What an amazing experience.
We were overjoyed, and incredibly impressed with our hosts.

This is what we tour for - to meet and share these beautiful musical moments. ๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽต

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy 80th Birthday, Colin Knight! ๐ŸŽ‰

Second Tenor, Colin, has been with us since 2005.

Those who know him call him a dear friend. Those who don't know him are missing out, because he is loved by all who do ๐Ÿ’•

At 80, Colin is a testament to why we sing. He still has the voice of an angel and a mind as sharp as a razor! We are so proud to have you on our team.

Cheers to you, Colin! ๐ŸŽถโœจ
