😁❤️🪄
Christopher Wood has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years in the entertainment industry, with his creative and technical expertise taking him across opera, ballet, drama, musicals, television and variety throughout the UK and internationally, including the USA, Australia, Asia and Africa.
His journey into professional entertainment began at the age of just 17, when he worked backstage on a performance by the legendary Tommy Cooper. It proved to be the start of a lifelong association with one of Britain’s greatest entertainers, and Christopher was fortunate to work alongside Tommy on several further occasions throughout his career. It is a chapter of his life that makes this production particularly special.
Christopher was privileged to hold senior technical positions at some of Britain’s leading theatres, including Wimbledon Theatre, London’s Victoria Palace Theatre, and the Opera House, Jersey, overseeing countless major productions and performances.
As part of the world-renowned Glyndebourne Opera Company, his career highlights include Carmen, The Marriage of Figaro and Porgy and Bess, working alongside internationally acclaimed artists including Luciano Pavarotti, Willard White, Maria Ewing and Lesley Garrett.
His West End credits include productions such as Evita, Cats, The Sound of Music and Buddy. He was also honoured to be part of the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in 1988 and later served as Stage Director for several Royal Gala performances attended by members of the Royal Family, including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Variety theatre has always remained at the heart of Christopher’s career. Over the years he has been involved in more than 400 pantomimes, working as a Stage Manager, Production Manager and, more recently, as a writer and producer. He has also spent over 20 years producing and managing summer seasons, working with many of the biggest names in British variety and musical entertainment.
Today, Christopher continues to develop new theatrical productions while remaining passionate about preserving and celebrating the rich traditions of British variety theatre that first inspired him as a teenager.
