Bit late on this as I've been preoccupied with duties.

Got this Artist Maple back to Marc just in time for recording at

The hardware was generally in a very good condition, grease and grime marks to be expected from a well gigged kit. So everything was stripped and cleaned down, polished and what needed to be oiled was done.

Shells were in a great condition aside from where the internal fixings met the shell for the lugs.

Removed the surface rust and tried my best to remove the deep rooted rust stain with oxalic acid, however, slight overlap on material that wasn't rusted left a slight bleaching.

This is a well manufactured kit, incredibly heavy for a maple kit, which makes me believe there may be some inner birch plies, certainly as it was custom built.

The customer wanted to get some new heads too, which we're able to cater to.

Got a delivery of from which consisted of Coated G2's, Clear G1's, Clear EQ3 and some blaster snare wires.

Was very pleased with how these came out.

So this is the monster that was in those cases!

These are particularly rare! Pretty sure this would've been made custom as I can't find any configuration in these sizes.

Customer has recently acquired these and wants a good ol' service, so all the hardware is being stripped and cleaned and oiled.

It's not in the worst condition, but has quite a bit of accumulated grime.

The tom shells have developed some rust stains where the nuts connected to the lugs have been sitting, probably through moisture build up from where they've been stored. Those fixings will be going through the ultrasonic cleaner too to remove the surface rust.

Will be doing updates so keep an eye!

Another kit heading home.

So this Pearl Drums kit came in a bad way a couple of weeks ago.

Hardware was chipped, rusted, pitted. Some of the shells had duct tape residue and marks on the finish. Some serious amounts of dust clogging up the nooks and crannies.

Customer basically wanted the kit to come back to life, admittedly I was apprehensive about taking it on due to the extent of rust damage and the fact the hardware was powder coated black, meaning any rust removal most certainly will remove paint and leave an unusual patchwork of chrome and black.

Customer reassured me and said they'd wanted it done regardless of the end result as they could get it refinished if need be, primarily wanted rid of the damage to the hardware.

So that's what happened, gave it a proper strip, almost all pieces of hardware were needing some form of rust removal so they were either used on a wire wheel or in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Painstakingly cleaned and restored all the hardware to a finished quality, as well as repairing minor details such as a badge that had become damaged, replaced rubber washers on the snare rims to metal ones due to the plastic ones practically disintegrating due to over tightness. Cut a new port hole on the kick drum resonant head too.

This has been quite the job, but I'm glad to see it come back with a new lease of life 💪

Tuning:
10" B
12" G
16" B
14" F #
22" E

Intervals

10" - 12" Major 3rd
12" - 16" Minor 6th
10" - 16" Octave
10" - 14" Perfect 5th

Really well rounded tuning, allowing a lot of space, depth, definition between the tom sizes.

On the lower end of the tuning range to add some much needed resonance and body to the tone of the drum.

One kit out, another one back in.

It's coming in for a full service and deep clean as it's seen some wear and tear.

Going to be fully restoring this.

It's time to send this beast back home, an absolute joy to bring back to life.

Required a few parts:
Bass drum spurs
Bass drum tension rods and claws
Floor tom legs
Tension rods

Started off with stripping the kit of all it's hardware, cleaned the shells and hardware, polished and removed excess rust material.

The resonant skins didn't need replacing so just new batter heads were put on.

Remo clear Emperor's for the tom's
Remo coated Controlled Sound for the snare
Remo clear Powerstroke 3 for the bass drum.

Will be doing a more in-depth post about tuning in the next few days.

Finally making some headway with that Mapex Drums USA Horizon kit.

All hardware cleaned, polished and oiled ready to be set up for tuning.

Had to source some spare parts such as tension rods, bass drum spurs, floor tom legs.
