🌞GUEST ARTIST SPOTLIGHT🌞

We're so pleased to welcome back mixed media artist Jools Woodhouse to this years summer exhibition. Her fabulous paintings were a roaring success last year and we hope for the same response to her vivid landscapes this year too!

Jools's paintings combine vibrancy and tranquillity focusing on the ever-changing light and weather that sweeps our coastal landscapes. You can definitely feel that strong connection she has to the atmosphere and coastline of Dorset.

Material spotlight… Glass

Glass is a versatile and temperamental material that can be used and modelling in a wide variety of ways. The material is an inspiration in itself and is wonderful to use to represent watery inspirations, capture and refract light, showcase textures and movement.

Glass can be worked hot (blown and lampworked), warm (kiln formed like fusing and slumping) or cold (stained, cut, polished); each offering a world of decorative, colour a textural opportunities to achieve functional and decorative pieces and a variety of scales from beads to vast installations.

Our glass artists Briony, who specialises in kiln formed glass; and Elvira, worked with stained, leaded glass.

Emma Jane is one of our resident artists who creates her highly popular wood paintings. Emma prides herself on using recycled materials and reclaimed wood to paint these soft, feminine pieces to adorn the walls of loved homes.

🔎Inspiration… Ammonites🔎🐚🦑

Situated on the iconic Jurassic Coast, we are lucky to have a wealth of history, landscapes and natural materials to inspire or artists. The most iconic representation of the Jurassic Coast is the ammonite fossil.

Closely related to modern squids and nautilus, these coiled, shelled ocean-dwelling molluscs have been preserved within sedimentary rocks along our coastline for at least 66 million years and are revealed through erosion of the cliff faces and shoreline.

Our artists have captured their iconic beauty and texture in metal, glass and paint.
