Swanage Folk Festival

Swanage Folk Festival A weekend of music, dance and fun around the beautiful town of Swanage. On 11/12/13 September 2026
(1)

For one September weekend each year Swanage comes alive to the spectacle of hundreds of Morris dancers, and other traditional dancers, dancing to the sounds of bells, drums and accordions. The Swanage Folk Festival has steadily grown in the 30 years it’s been running and now attracts thousands of people each time it runs. It’s one of the largest, if not the largest Morris dancing festivals in the

country. As well as the dance spectacle filling the town, locations all around the town echo to the melodies of Folk music. The festival’s main venue is filled with 400 people each evening with some of the country's great names in folk music. There’s also a ceilidh, workshops, children's activities, sessions, a craft fair and stalls all based around the sea front and town centre. Some of the concerts are free, others ticketed, and the festival also includes free children's entertainment, a craft fair and other stalls. The Swanage Folk Festival is a non-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers, donating their time and energy because of their love of music and dance. After costs are covered, proceeds are donated to local good causes each year. Click https://buytickets.at/swanagefolkfestival to buy your tickets.

Introducing The Purbeck Cider Company . Not only are they one of our sponsors, but you'll also be able to enjoy their local cider when you visit the festival bar.

Thousands of people enjoy Swanage Folk Festival each year, and that simply wouldn’t happen without the support of local businesses and organisations who help us along the way.

Their support helps us bring music, dance and atmosphere into the town each September while keeping so much of the festival free and accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Please support the businesses who support the festival. Say hello when you see them and, if you get the chance, use them too. We’re very grateful for their help.

Are folk audiences getting older, or younger?

Last year's article from Lighthouse Poole suggests younger people are rediscovering folk music and traditional culture.

"In an age when mainstream pop songs are written by AI, mixed by computer software and streamed online, some music fans are gravitating towards something more authentic and making new cultural connections."

Folk music has always been about authenticity and never stood still. Every generation has reshaped it in its own way.

What's your experience? Are younger people becoming more interested in folk music and dance, or are we kidding ourselves?

We are so looking forward to September. Are you,?
