Arty Farty Fun House

Arty Farty Fun House 🎨 Welcome to Arty Farty Fun House, the spot where I share all the art that I need to expel from my artistically cluttered brain.

You'll see colour and crazy is my happy place! I hope you enjoy my art just as much as I enjoy creating it!

This piece takes me back to such a magical moment in my childhood. When I was around 6 years old, we went to a theme park in Germany called
Phantasialand. At this park there was an amazing show in a beautiful grand theatre, and in one exquisite scene, it showed a tropical rainforest with vines and a river with flamingos and tropical birds, all lit up with fluorescent and ultra violet lights. The sights and sounds from that moment have stayed with me all my life and I feel like this piece captures those memories so well. It's acrylic on canvas and wasn't planned at all, intuition and core memories took over. To me, this piece represents childhood wonder, pure happiness and the beginning of my journey to love all things colourful and bright.

Here's the underpainting that quietly sits beneath the finished piece. What starts as a wild explosion of colour and texture slowly evolves into a world of flowers, water and tangled jungle vines. I always think acrylic painting is like gardening on canvas - you plant the first layers, nurture them, and watch them bloom. Which one is your favourite?

This picture had been boring me for some time, it was pretty but just didn't bring me joy! Now thanks to some Posca pen magic, directly over the glass, its a colourful joy to behold and makes me smile again! This is a cheap, easy and fun activity to do at home with the kids, if you're needing some last minute summer holiday boredom busters! You could go one step further and take out the picture and replace it with some fun contrasting wallpaper instead.

Continuing on with the Ocean theme, I painted a quick and happy watercolour Manta ray, I had so much fun charging the watercolour paints and watching them organically do their thing. The photo really doesn't do justice to the gold posca pen details, but it is a rather fun piece and goes beautifully with the tropical fish watercolour I created recently... at this rate they'll be a whole collection of sea creatures soon!

I was supposed to do so many things today, instead I got lost in some NeuroArt. Inspired by Aboriginal art but with a rainbow sprinkle of colour. This piece was a real time waster... but I loved every moment!

I got out the Gelli plate today to do some printing, it was a disaster! However some watercolour pens and some fine tip posca pens saved the prints. No wasted art supplies here, lol.
