What does Mixed Reality actually look like?

One of the challenges of talking about 3.1 is that it really has to be experienced to be understood. These images show both the physical space and what audiences see through the headset during the performance.

Buses, Metros, bedrooms, streets and locations from across Sunderland emerge around live performers, blending digital worlds with real space in front of your eyes.

3.1 was co-created with communities across Sunderland in response to the events of summer 2024, exploring how division, misinformation and prejudice can grow in just a few moments—and what happens when we take the time to see one another more fully.

Presented as part of Refugee Week, today’s performances explore belonging, identity and the importance of seeing one another beyond headlines and assumptions

IGNITE Pro Class - Tuesday, June 16th from 9:30-11:00.

We are excited to host Beth Pattison for Pro Class next week in the Southpaw Studio!

Beth’s class uses full bodied movement and flow to shift across the space. Combining elements of acro and floor techniques, you will be moving in and out of the floor effortlessly and she will push your facility to its limit.

Expect to get a sweat on, her class is all about letting your hair down and moving to your fullest!

Join our Company Dancer .been tomorrow for this week’s Pro Class!

Billy’s class will be focused on guided improvisation and working with weight, breath and control.

Starting with the mechanics of moving weight through the space and progressing into an exploration of how controlling weight and intention with breath, can create texture, character and a large movement vocabulary to draw from within improvisation.

IGNITE Pro Class - Tuesday, June 2nd from 09:30 - 11:00

We are very excited to have Company Dancer lead this week's Pro Class.

Alicia's class will be rooted in contemporary movement practices and begins with full-body mobilisation and conditioning, using a series of dynamic isolations and strengthening exercises to warm up the body and build stamina.

You’ll then explore improvisation techniques to encourage freedom of movement, creativity, and connection to the music, while gradually increasing the cardiovascular intensity.

Expect floor work, movement drills, and an uplifting soundtrack throughout. The class finishes with a more structured sequence of exercises focused on shifting weight, flow, coordination, and confidently moving in and out of the floor.
