📢 NORTH EAST MUSIC FOLKS

Some of you may be aware of the Facebook chat I've been running for a couple of years. It's a space for musicians, songwriters, artists and anyone involved in the North East music scene to connect and share opportunities.

It's been really cool to see group members go on to have paid opportunities and have access to funds and programmes that they found via this group, so I'm expanding it!

The "North East Music Forum" is a WhatsApp community created to bring the scene closer together, allowing members to ask each other questions and share their knowledge.

I regularly post opportunities both nationally and based in the region, all for free.

TEAM 💖

That's a wrap for our four-day Summer Song Camp, it's been a blast! As always we were blown away by the talent on display from all of our amazing young songwriters.

Huge thanks to Sunderland Music Hub once again, without the funding and support from these guys this project simply couldn't happen. The Sunderland College Music Department team were phenomenal as always, such a great space to use and having the guys on hand to help out is a bonus.

Finally I'd like to say a big thank you to Cortney and David for supporting the camp this week. Without their expertise, experience and patience I'd really struggle to run these kinds of things, two amazing people who I'm incredibly lucky to work alongside!

We'll be back soon, already excited for the next one... 🫡🤘

⚠️ BANGERS IN PROGRESS

For Day 3 of our Summer Song Camp we started to hit the studio and lay down some demos. All the groups have already written two songs each, so we decided it was about time we got some proof!

Most of the group had never worked in a studio before so we're so grateful to Sunderland College for letting us use their amazing facilities.

Our Summer Song Camp with is officially underway! Already we've got some amazing original songs finished, so proud of this group for getting stuck in and making some new friends in the process.

We've still got three days left to keep on writing and recording, roll on tomorrow! 👊

👏 Great afternoon at Thornhill Academy giving a quick taster session for our Summer Song Camp this August!

What an amazing group, always great to see how important music is to this school. Hopefully we'll see a few familiar faces in a few weeks!

🤘 FREE SONGWRITING CAMP!

Thanks to the wonderful people over at Sunderland Music Hub we're over the moon to announce the return of our songwriters project, hosted by Sunderland College Music Department.

The four day camp, facilitated by Eddie Scott, Cortney Dixon and David Smith, will run from 10am to 3pm and include a free hot meal each day.

Within a small group you will learn the basics of songwriting, how to effectively collaborate and even get to record your songs in the studio!

This opportunity is open to any young person aged 13-16 and based in Sunderland, no prior experience is needed and any skill level is welcome. DM us any questions or queries you may have. Spaces are very limited.

🥵 What a set today at Northern Saints Primary for our Rock Junior band!

Always amazing to see the reaction from children who've had such limited exposure to live music before (sorry to the teachers who had to retrieve all of the ties that were thrown 😬).

That's the last performance now until after the summer holidays, but we'll be back rocking from September!

First ‘Rock Junior’ gig done! 🎹 A great project from Write Your Song which brings live music to schools in the North East. Loads of fun!🎶

Great session last night with the lovely First Notes cohort from !

They wanted to learn a little bit about how to incorporate music theory into their songwriting and gain more of an understanding about different chords and techniques.

We ended the session by splitting into groups and reharmonising a popular 4-chord song using the "music theory hacks" we'd picked up from the presentation. Who knew "Love Story" by Taylor Swift needed a diminished chord thrown in!

We've got more in person events booked in this year, including a couple of songwriting residencies and co-writing opportunities. I'll try and actually post about them!
