Are you brave enough to take on the Vikings?! Join us at 1pm too for a medieval combat display!

Dunholm Vikings, who are one of our favourite re-eanctors, are offering something new this year. They are giving under 11s the chance to fight a real live Viking warrior!

Kiddy Vike will take place at 11am and parental consent is required. The kids will be taught how to handle a sword, carry a shield and repel the raiders!

Do you think you're brave enough to take them on?

Another weekend, another great event

10/05/2026

Things are moving quickly here at History Fair HQ. You may have seen our flyers around town advertising the event, we've handed out 5000 and I've been told we need even more!

Bookings are still coming in from exhibitors and our re-enactors are really keen to show off their skills to the public.

The vintage bus is booked - I know lots of you love the bus trips! This year it will be heading down to the East End, stopping at the Donnison School Heritage and Education Centre and 17 Nineteen. Visit both of the venues and then hop back on the bus to return you to the Fair. Best of all, the bus is completely free!

Sunderland Antiquarian Society will also be open that day - their offices are directly opposite Bede Tower, so pop in and have a look at their amazing collections.

We have also been approached by the Freemasons at Wearside Masonic Temple who have kindly offered to open up the building to visitors, definitely worth a visit too!

There's going to be so much going on outside Bede Tower, next time, we'll let you know what's going on inside the venue!

Miss us at Greystoke Castle? Don't worry, you can next see us in Sunderland on 30 May!

Hello again everyone!

It's that time of year again when we at History Fair HQ start to put our plans into action for the next Sunderland History Fair!

The Fair will be held once again at the Bethany Church on Burdon Road on Saturday 30th May 2026, from 10am to 4pm.

The last Fair in 2024 was a HUGE success and we would love to repeat that in '26, so save the date, history buffs and get involved!

I will be contacting exhibitors over the next few days and if there is anyone out there who would like to take part and book a table with us, please contact me through this page.

We are a not for profit organisation and all table fees go to cover the running costs.

And to all the visitors who came last time - we had about 2,000!!! - we hope to see you again next May,

I will let you know who will be joining us as we receive their booking confirmations over the next few months, so keep your eye on this page!

Don't miss us at Greystoke Castle in Cumbria this bank holiday weekend. It's the first time our large annual event has been held in the North of England, with over 300 members ready for battle! Well worth the drive over!

We can't wait to visit Greystoke Castle in Cumbria on 3 and 4 May, join us for Cumberland Medieval Festival!
