Working on the Shop Fascia in Sudbury town centre last week, and talking about my previous sign work, reminded me how long I've been making signs. The first one was almost half a century ago, for Bulmer, Queens Silver Jubilee Fete, 1977.

Here's a photo from 41 years ago, when I was 26, a 10 feet x 5 feet plywood, hand painted / sign written sign, I made and fitted in position for "The Robert Burre" Pub, Great Clacton, Essex, in 1985.

Unbeknown to me, my Ford FW-60 print was removed by Ebay ? It wasn't until I attended the Greenstead Green Ploughing event, at Black Notley Hall, last Saturday, that I was reminded, the print was not on display on Ebay any more ?? Not sure how long this had been the case ...... but it's back on now ! ..... Please contact me for more details.

A recent working scene of an 8 year old Fendt Crawler Tractor in South Suffolk. The Massey Ferguson was pulling a Fuel Bowser, to keep the Fendt topped up, as it cultivated a number of fields, around the 400 acre Farm.

I'm putting together a multi-photo modern tractor / cultivating Greetings Cards. This is one of the Tractors in the set of scenes.

My latest Picture Pub sign work. This is for the King's Head, Pebmarsh, Halstead, Essex.

Hand illustrated, each side is slightly different. I don't think there are many Artist's in the UK doing this type of work. Guess I'm one of the last. These days, vinyl stickers of paintings are used instead.

Restoring the same sign I made and illustrated in 2017 ...... in fact, the first sign I made for the Pub, was back in 1992, and this latest sign design is still based on the Ind Coope sign, I had to replace in 1992.

That sign was painted in Romford, Essex, by the "in house" Ind Coope Brewery sign makers, in 1975. Back then, they illustrated on hardboard !!

This short story gives over half a century history on one Pub sign.

The latest sign is now back in Pebmarsh, ready to be fixed to a new Oak post. I'll add another photo when everything is fixed in position.

Working at the Hartest Fete, Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August 2026. From memory, I think this is the fourth time. After the Church Bells rang out, and Bag Pipes were played, at 1 p.m., Terry Waite opened the event, with an appropriate speech, regarding Village life and the local community.

My trade stand was next to the Village Telephone Kiosk, which has just been given a preservation order, and yes, you can use the phone inside !

Hartest is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The view from the top of the steepest Hill in Suffolk [Hartest Hill], is looking towards Hawkedon - note the rain storm in the distance.

Peter Winch, a school friend from the 1970's, who now lives nearby, took the Trade stand photo.

I think arsonists have set light to it on more than one occasion. but luckily, it's still standing. With just about every window broken, a haven for Pigeons. I hate to think what it looks like on the inside.

16 years ago, on 30th July 2010, the Foxearth Village sign, I helped restore, was unveiled. I have that job to do again....

16 years ago, on 30th July 2010, the Foxearth Village sign, I helped restore, was unveiled. I have that job to do again. I've started with cleaning and oiling the wooden post, today. Before and after photos shown.
Looking at the grass colour in the 2010 photo, it was a dry summer.
