Self-taught artist drawing animals & figuring it out as I go✏️
Charcoal • Ink • A little colour
↓ Original pet portraits available

Hi, I am Phil the owner of Lifelike Portraits. I am a self taught artist based in the South East of England who focuses on photo realistic paintings of people and animals. I have always appreciated art whether its through photography, going for a walk around nature or being around other peoples pets, I am constantly taking inspiration from these things.

Not just cats and dogs 🐢🐰🐴🦎

A few of the other animals I’ve had the chance to draw recently for people who found me on social media.

Got a pet that isn’t a cat or dog? 👀
Drop a photo of your random pet in the comments 🐾

Photos people have sent me & what I’ve sent back 🐾

It’s always interesting seeing the photo I’m given and then how it ends up as a drawing.

Some are pretty straightforward, some take a bit more figuring out, but I love seeing the finished piece come together.

Here are a few recent ones 👀

If you’ve got a photo of your pet you’d like me to draw, you can find all the info and order through my website 🐾

I spent years knowing how to add more detail.

I'm finding that knowing when not to is considerably harder 🤦🏼‍♂️
There are parts of this I'd happily keep working on for another few hours, but I'm not convinced they'd make it a better drawing.

So this is probably where I stop 🙏😬
What do you think?

I came across this incredible picture of via Unsplash and knew I had to draw it ✏️

I'd love to draw your pet, whether they're a dog, cat, horse, rabbit or anything else 🐶🐱🐇🐎

Two cats - unfinished.

Calling this one early.

I'd finished the first cat and was going to start the second when I realised I couldn't really make out the nose in the reference photo.🤣

I didn't want to guess as someone's pet and that's an important guess...🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

So this one's staying unfinished.🤷🏼‍♂️

We go again.....
