Quay Productions and Pelham Elliott Productions are thrilled that The Quay Sudbury will see the world premiere of the first stage adaptation of the much-loved modern classic “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day”, a fun and light-hearted story set in the Thirties.
Miss Pettigrew, a dowdy governess down on her luck, is sent for a job to the wrong address and encounters the glamorous night club singer Miss Delysia LaFosse - and over the course of a day becomes more involved and enamoured by the life of Miss LaFosse and her set – and blossoms!
The novel has been described as feeling like a Fred Astaire film; the play has been summed up as “a perfect combination of Cinderella meeting Jeeves and Wooster!”
Pelham Elliott who has adapted the novel is a Suffolk based actor, director and writer living in Sudbury. He was keen that the adaptation should keep the humour, effervescence, and joy of the original novel. The adaptation is approved by the son of the novel’s author, Winifred Watson.

I am absolutely thrilled to reveal a very special project that has been three years in the making. PELHAM ELLIOTT has been in discussions with the literary estate of Winifred Watson - and with its whole-hearted approval of his script, I can now announce that they have given permission for Pelham to present (with Quay Productions) his own adaptation of the fabulous “Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day”, which will be performed at The Quay Theatre, Sudbury in April 2023.
If you know and love the novel, you are going to adore the stage version!
