A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last night at Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton for our performance of Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. Our four soloists truly put the icing on the cake - their artistry helped make it an evening of music we’ll remember for a long time.

We’re already looking forward to collaborating with them again on future projects… although perhaps not with their wonderful bass, Will, who is heading off with his family to exciting new pastures at an opera house in southern Germany. We wish him every success in this next chapter of his career.

Do keep an eye out for our next concert on 11th July, at St Mary's, Painswick featuring songs by Gloucestershire composers - it promises to be another special occasion.

This Saturday, 21st March, The Thames Head Singers invite you to set aside the world’s worries and let music offer a little breathing space. For a few hours, let Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton become your refuge, a place where music can do what it does best: remind us that beauty still thrives, even when life feels heavy.

We’re thrilled to be joined by our wonderful soloists from Cardiff Cotswold Opera as together we bring you Rossini’s radiant Petite Messe Solennelle.

Rossini himself called it “neither little, nor solemn, nor particularly liturgical,” but it is unmistakably Rossini — full of tenderness, wit, and a kind of luminous hope that feels wonderfully timely.

So let the world wait outside for a while. Let your shoulders drop. Let this extraordinary music carry you somewhere lighter, brighter, and beautifully human.

Rossini described this mass as a ‘sin of his old age’ and it is certainly a mass like no other!

Full of optimism and humour and with the flamboyance and drama characteristic of his earlier operas – it’s not to be missed.

This unique mass (in Rossini’s original setting) will be sung by four talented soloists, with burgeoning careers in opera, accompanied by Julian Elloway (piano), Tim Ingold (harmonium) and of course, Stroud’s Thames Head Singers. It will be directed by Andrew Hopwood.

A big 'THANK YOU' and 'MERRY CHRISTMAS' to everyone who braved the winter cold last night and joined us at Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton as we celebrated in style with our Classical Christmas Concert alongside our good friends the Capriol Chamber Orchestra.

It was a magical evening full of music, traditional carols and the 'not so traditional' arrangements and one that we will remember for a long time to come!

The much-loved Thames Head Singers and Capriol Chamber Orchestra present a rich and engaging mix of classical and Christmas music to welcome you to the festive season.

Vivaldi’s Kyrie, requiring two choirs and two string orchestras, is not often performed and the musical drama it creates is a rare treat. This will be followed by Vivaldi’s better known and very popular Gloria. The Capriol Chamber Orchestra continues the classical theme with Corelli’s Christmas Concerto – a festive masterpiece.

The evening will conclude with a host of carols, including Chilcott’s adventurous and entertaining arrangement of The Twelve Days of Christmas and Jonathan Trim’s wonderful setting of Away in a Manger.

The performance will be directed by Andrew Hopwood and Jonathan Trim and accompanied by Julian Elloway.

The concert will be supporting Mindsong – a local charity reaching out to people with dementia through music and song.

Doors open at 6.45pm for pre-concert drinks and the concert starts at 7.30pm.
