Brian Jackson, A Legend of Conscious Music Comes to Stroud! (London) and present one of the most significant live music bookings to come to the Stroud district in recent years: a full headline show from the legendary musician and composer whose catalogue — recorded alongside Gil Scott-Heron — has shaped over fifty years of protest music, hip-hop, jazz and soul.

Taking place at the iconic Goods Shed on Saturday 6 June, the show is part of Brian Jackson’s Now More Than Ever tour, a programme that feels as urgent and necessary in 2026 as the music did when it was first written.

Church of Sound is a regular gig in St James the Great Church, Lower Clapton Rd. A central speaker tower stands tall in the centre of the room, surrounded by musicians, audience and crew. Emphasis is placed firmly on the music: carefully selected, joyfully performed & cleanly recorded.

Bristol 8-piece Soma Soma - GOODS SHED STROUD Sat May 23 Plus and and FULL LATIN DAY EXPERIENCE

SOMA SOMA
Soma Soma are an 8-piece band performing their unique style of Afro-brazilian music. Based in Bristol, UK, Soma Soma are made up of Brazilian and British musicians and sing in Brazilian Portuguese. The vocal performances are powerful and emotive, conveying the passion of the music even for those who don’t understand the language.

Their music combines Brazilian styles such as the rhythmic drive of Samba, the smooth melodies of Bossa Nova, and the soulful sway of Arrocha with the vibrant energy of African Highlife, the groove of Afrobeat, and the infectious danceability of Soukous. They take an unorthodox approach to song writing which takes listeners on an emotional journey, swaying and listening intently to deep psychedelic soundscapes and dancing ecstatically to authentic Samba.

COCO DOS PRETOS
Hailing from Recife, Brazil, Coco dos Pretos have proven themselves as a symbol of resilience, and cultural significance. Since 2006, the group has pioneered an innovative approach to the traditional coco rhythm, expanding and refining its sound while staying rooted in ancestral heritage.

Based in the ChĂŁo de Estrelas community, the group not only holds rehearsals but also leads a meaningful socio-cultural initiative dedicated to preserving and promoting Afro-descendant culture. Through their work, they challenge the stigmas often attached to popular traditions such as coco, and above all, they celebrate and strengthen Afro-Brazilian
identity and expression.

Ishmael Ensemble returns to Stroud on Friday 8th May 2026 for a special in the round performance at The Goods Shed, joined by The Rituals Orchestra and a host of guest vocalists.

Following the acclaimed release of their 2024 album Rituals and an extensive tour across the UK, Europe & Australia, bandleader Pete Cunningham expands on the ideas first explored in the recording studio. For the album sessions, Cunningham assembled a unique combination of harp, string & horn players to create lush, cinematic textures; now brought to life on stage alongside guest vocalists, the forming of The Rituals Orchestra has offered an opportunity to re-interpret music from the entire Ishmael Ensemble back catalogue in a new and exciting way.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sending this out to everyone who made Jazz Stroud possible this year and one of the best, that’s a message to all, for artists, audience and our incredible team!

It was a truly special year.

There was a nervousness about this festival on a few levels: moving our date from its regular spot, having enough in our budgets to get it over the line and of the craziness of this particular time we all find ourselves in, but the positivity, optimism and warmth of those that believe in this fest shows that there is truly something remarkable about how the arts can make the difference.

We have always felt that bringing a community together through art is a political statement and even more so after this phenomenal Jazz Stroud weekend, It’s just so inspiring.

We want to do this again and we’ll do it together so let’s move on this now. We can all make our contribution and full passes are up, let’s raise the funds to invite more phenomenal artists to this wonderful town.

So much Love to every single one of you, you are shining stars.

Neil and the beautiful Jazz Stroud Team ❤️❤️❤️

The Vernon Spring play St Laurence Church- We are so excited to welcome this beautiful artist to this year’s Jazz Stroud festival. The Vernon Spring is the recording project of North London-born musician Sam Beste, whose journey traces various arcs across jazz, soul, ambient, and songwriting modes.

Beste’s dedication and talent placed him in Amy Winehouse’s orbit, whom he accompanied as her live pianist for the majority of her ascendent career. Their pairing paved the way for other significant and diverse collaborations, including work with Gabriels, Kendrick Lamar producer Sounwave, Beth Orton, Kano, Joy Crookes, Matthew Herbert, and MF DOOM.

The Vernon Spring will be closing the Saturday daytime programme at St Laurence with a phenomenal line up including, Bex Burch & Cassie Kinoshi, Jason Singh and Bel Cobain.
