Come along to the Sunart Centre this Friday evening to hear this incredible talk from Bonny Mealand!
Doors 6:30 for a 7PM start. 🐴
"In September, I spent a month in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert researching the world’s only truly wild horse, the takhi. Living and working in this vast, unforgiving landscape offered a rare opportunity to follow wild bands across the steppe, observe their behaviour up close, and learn directly from the rangers, scientists, and herding communities who protect and live alongside them. This experience opened a window into a world shaped by wind, resilience, and ancient survival strategies, a world where every movement, decision, and connection matters.
This talk weaves together my fieldwork experiences with the deeper story of the takhi: their remarkable history, their ecological importance, and their enduring place within Mongolia’s rich horse culture. Through a blend of research, lived experience, and storytelling, I invite audiences to meet these extraordinary horses, understand the challenges they face, and explore why their future depends on us understanding their lives. It’s a journey into a landscape where culture, science, and the spirit of the horse come together - and an invitation to see wild horses, and perhaps all horses, through a new lens." - Bonny Mealand
