Some Japanese Boro inspired Slow Stitching art pieces created by a group of lovely folk at this Higham Hall residential retreat in the English Lake District.

Time spent mindfully making without the constraint of pre-planned designs or the worry of functionality.

Pondering Japanese philosophy of valuing cloth as a precious resource and enjoying the tranquility of this wonderful stately home.

Dates for next year are already being filled with only 4 places left for advance booking 19-21 March 2027 costing approximately £360 with all meals and accommodation. Book direct with the venue at www.HighamHall.com

Comments from course participants:

“Excellent course. Educational & creative with a brilliant tutor”

“The course was sooo interesting - I learned a lot from Carolyn both practically & conceptually. Nothing was too much trouble for her, she had time & attention for everyone and was such an interesting kind person. Such joy it gives to reclaim & reconstitute scraps into a new form, and permission to be messy and spontaneous is so liberating”

“Marvellous weekend. Carolyn’s support & teaching was perfect”

“From start to finish a brilliant course with a wonderful teacher - creatively liberating & much enjoyed by all participants. I’ve already booked to come back again next year!”

At the edge of the sea, a new venture unfolds.
On an island shaped by the elements, a new rhythm begins - creative soulful and alive with purpose

Hello my friends,
As the tide turns on fifty years of creative work, I find myself standing at a new horizon — where strategy, art, and soul finally meet. Every step of the journey so far has led to this moment: a chance to gather all the wisdom, colour, and rhythm of a lifetime into one clear, authentic expression.
Rather than slowing down, I’m stepping into something new. Behind the scenes, I’ve been working with three leading consultants in business strategy, branding, and digital marketing to create a new chapter that brings all my experience into a single, authentic direction.
From Beach Gallery here on the island of Hoy, Orkney, I’ve always drawn inspiration from this extraordinary place — the sea, the light, and the rhythm of the tides. This landscape has become not just my home, but the heartbeat of the lifestyle and philosophy that runs through all my work.
In the New Year, I’ll be unveiling Clarity Insight — a new brand that represents the natural evolution of everything I’ve built so far. It’s about weaving together insight, creativity, and rhythm into something deeply personal and true.
While the form is changing, the spirit remains the same: handcrafted, thoughtful, and grounded in authenticity. This new venture brings together everything I’ve learned — from strategic thinking and creative practice to personal reflection and the natural cycles that shape our lives.
It’s also the beginning of a new relationship with technology — embracing AI and digital tools to make my work more accessible, more interactive, and more individually tailored for each client.
So although it may seem as though things have been quiet here, a great deal has been happening behind the scenes. I’m stepping into the new year with renewed purpose and a clear vision — ready to share this next phase with you.
Thank you for being part of my creative life — whether through Beach Gallery workshops, art, or friendship from afar. Your support over the years has been the foundation for what comes next.
With warmth from Orkney,
Carolyn
Founder, Clarity Insight
(formerly Beach Gallery)
