👀 Check your man from top to toe! Here’s what to look for:
‼ 70% of melanoma appear as a new mole:
New healthy moles don’t commonly appear in adulthood so they are worthy of your special attention - even if they are very small and especially if they appear very dark / almost black.
👉 The remaining 30% of melanoma arise in an existing mole or freckle that follows one or more of the ABCDE of melanoma rule:
A= Asymmetry - when one half of the mole doesn’t look like the other
B = Border - when the borders become irregular, ragged or blurred
C = Colour - when there is more than one colour visible / no uniform pigmentation
D = Diameter - when the largest diameter is greater than 6mm (but could be smaller!)
E = Evolution - any changes to the size, shape, colour, surface characteristics or sensation
In addition keep an eye out for the following that could indicate a rarer form of melanoma:
‼ Any lump or bump on the skin that’s Elevated, Firm to touch and Growing.
