We’re rather chuffed to find Lily Skinner and Home, I’m Darling taking up a fabulous two-page spread in this week’s Stratford Herald.

Lily talks about playing Judy, but also looks back at her long association with the Bear Pit, from the theatre’s rather more modest beginnings to the company you see today.

It’s a lovely piece about Lily, the Bear Pit and the people who make community theatre happen, as well as a peek ahead to Home, I’m Darling later this month.

🏡 Building the 1950s, one room at a time…

A little peek behind the scenes as Judy and Johnny’s home begins to take shape on the Bear Pit stage.

Ann Loscombe’s set design is being brought to life by Martin Tottle and his brilliant construction team, transforming our little theatre into a complete 1950s home. As you can see, there are currently rather more power tools, paintbrushes and bits of wallpaper than cocktails and canapés, but it’s getting there!

And some of the finishing touches have travelled quite a way. Our sofa, chair and stool have come from the Lace Market Theatre in Nottingham, while the cooker, fridge and stereogram were borrowed from the Hoddesdon Players in Hertfordshire after their production of Home, I’m Darling last year.

Special mention to Barry Purchase-Rathbone, who made both collection trips! 🚐👏

It takes an enormous amount of work, ingenuity and quite a few pairs of hands to create what you eventually see on stage. Here’s a sneaky look at the team making it happen…

So, what ARE you going to get from Home, I’m Darling? 🎭

A trip into the colour and style of the 1950s? Absolutely.

But also a night to laugh, cringe, be shocked, and perhaps recognise rather more of yourself in these characters than you were expecting…

There’s dancing. There’s plenty to look at. There’s a lot of fun. And underneath it all, a lot of heart.

How much of directing is simply choosing the right people? 🎭

Apparently, quite a lot.

Jacquie Campbell and assistant director Elliot Gear take us inside the rehearsal room for Home, I’m Darling, and explain why getting the casting right has made their job rather suspiciously easy…

Six characters, six terrific actors, and a company who have been finding the relationships, comedy and heart in Laura Wade’s play from the very first rehearsals.

Although apparently the directors do occasionally have to do some actual directing. 😉
