Each week we'll be bringing you more information on one of our fantastic acts or workshops on offer at this summer's inaugural Big Skies Festival in Port Logan on June 6th.
Festival tickets will be available soon to buy online – watch this space!
This week the spotlight is on The Daddy Naggins. A high engery bluegrass band from Glasgow.
The band formed in 2010 and features top flat-picker and rhythm guitar player, Darren Young, who is the band's lead vocalist and is also a first-class songwriter; hard-driving 5-string banjo player, Garry McFadden, gifted composer, banjo instructor and vocalist; joining the band on a rock steady double bass and lead vocals is Hazel Mairs, who has been steeped in bluegrass music from an early age. The Daddy Naggins are regularly joined by virtuoso mandolinist Laura-Beth Salter (The Shee, Kinaris Quintet).
The Daddy Naggins unites powerful harmony vocals to bring you traditional bluegrass classics, folk songs and well known modern covers - all with that authentic ‘high lonesome sound’.
As well as being stalwarts of the Glasgow pub circuit, the entertaining act have played at folk clubs, festivals, weddings and venues all over Scotland, Ireland and the UK and are forging a reputation as one of the busiest, most energetic bands on the Scottish music scene.
Here's a link to a video of The Daddy Naggins playing a cover of one of my favourite songs – Rocketman by Elton John.
It's a fabulous version! 🚀
