The Stowmarket Culture Group is looking for up to nine freelance creative practitioners to deliver the Jubilant! Youth Arts Festival this summer.
These roles will involve working in Stowmarket, Suffolk, with a group of children / young people from one of our participating primary or secondary schools, to create a cultural activity which will be showcased to the public at one of the town’s venues in July as part of a mini youth festival.
The Creative Practitioners will work collaboratively with their school and chosen venue to design and deliver their project over 6-8 weeks, to engage students using their chosen art form and to celebrate the results throughout the town for the wider community to enjoy.
We’re looking for individuals with experience of working with children / young people covering a variety of art forms – music, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, film, radio, podcasting, photography, gardening, food - it doesn’t matter what your artistic practice is, as long as you have a passion for what you do, enjoy working as part of a team and are committed to producing work of the highest standard.
We will be recruiting up to 9 individuals. The project is supported by Mid Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council Covid Recovery Fund. The Stowmarket Culture Group includes the Museum of East Anglian Life, John Peel Centre, Regal Cinema, Stowmarket Library, Fox Yard Studio and Modece. We are proud to deliver Jubilant! in partnership with Stowmarket schools, Red Gables, The Mix, Primadonna Festival and Aspire Black Suffolk. Jubilant! will put a resident artist in every school in Stowmarket for a term. A festival will showcase the work they create together. After 18 months of disruption to education caused by Covid, this is a chance for young people to collaborate, imagine and celebrate with the whole town. The artists will work with young people to create music, theatre, art, creative writing, film, podcasts, sculpture, design and food, which will be showcased in a festival in the summer of 2022.
Jubilant! will be organised by the Stowmarket Culture Group, which includes the Museum of East Anglian Life, the John Peel Centre, the Regal, the Library, Fox Yard Studio, Red Gables and The Mix. We will showcase the works created at our venues during a festival week open to all.
The festival will take the theme of the Platinum Jubilee, creating a portrait of the town in the year 2022 and looking forward to the future.
