Our 90 year old choir is recruiting!

We're looking for male voices, particularly top tenors.

Now is a good time to join as the pressure is off after our anniversary concert last week and our next concert is after the summer break.

We practise on a Tuesday evening, 7.30pm to 9.30pm in Stonehouse Primary School.

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir - 90th Anniversary - 1936 ~ 2026

After the closure of Paterson Church the choir had to find a new home.

The choir now practices in Stonehouse Primary School and holds its concerts in St. Ninian's Church.

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir - 90th Anniversary - 1936 ~ 2026

In 2023 we finally changed the old blue blazers for modern tartan waistcoats.

The choir had been using the blazers for over 40 years and we felt it was time for a change.

We spent a while designing a tartan to suit and we now have our very own registered Stonehouse Male Voice Choir tartan.

This photo is from the first outing for the new uniform at the Biggar Little Festival from October 2023. We'll be back again at the festival later this year.

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir - 90th Anniversary - 1936 ~ 2026

In November 2022 we were invited to sing at the wedding of Iain and Julie.

Iain is the son of John Hamilton, a long time choir and Jolly Bs member who was especially known for playing the mouth organ.

It was organised by Julie as a surprise for Iain and he didn't know we were coming, so during the wedding the recording of The Rose started with John playing the mouth organ and then we came in and sang the rest.

The Jolly Bs then played for the guests during the signing of the register. It was a lovely experience for us to be invited to be part of.

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir - 90th Anniversary - 1936 ~ 2026

After COVID choirs were one of the last activities to be allowed.

In 2021 we were involved with the Love Singing project and had a song composed for us by Penny Stone - Where There Is Music.

We practiced it on our own or online and then in November 2021 we were allowed to meet together and record it, as long as we stayed over 1 metre apart!
