The Porthill Players

The Porthill Players Since forming well over 100 years ago, the PORTHILL PLAYERS have gone from strength to strength producing musical theatre and plays to a high level.

The Porthill Players were founded in 1911, based in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Since then, the society has grown to over one hundred members, who regularly stage major musicals and one-off concerts in and around Stoke-on-Trent. We always welcome new members for both on and off the stage activities. And of course, we have a great social life. Past Productions:

The funeral of Sheila Fernyhough will take place at Bradwell Crematorium on Wednesday 6th August at 11.20am, followed by a reception at Wolstanton Golf Club. Family flowers only, donations if desired in memory of Sheila to The Stroke Association.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our very dear friend, Sheila Fernyhough, passed away last night (Sunday 6th July) with Derek and David at her side.

Funeral arrangements will follow in due course.

We can now confirm that Jonathan’s funeral will take place at Bradwell Crematorium on Thursday 14th December at 2pm.

No flowers please. Donations will be given to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

In light of the present circumstances and as a mark of respect to Jonathan and his family, we have made the decision to cancel the Christmas Party which was due to take place on Friday 8th December.

It doesn’t feel right to have the party without our leading man as the host, or while family and friends are still waiting to lay him to rest.

We have ideas for a way to pay tribute to the society and Jonathan in the new year and we will share details with you in due course.

Likewise, as soon as we have any details regarding Jonathan’s funeral, we will share these with you.

Thank you for all the lovely comments that have been made in response to our previous post. They have been shared with Sheila and Derek and have been a great source of comfort to them at this difficult time.

It is with great sadness that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of Jonathan Fernyhough.

The theatre world has not only lost a talented actor, singer and director, but a much loved friend who touched the lives and hearts of so many.

Jonathan may be gone, but he will definitely not be forgotten.
