A500 Music Bringing great live music to The Potteries

10/09/2026

Because I'm bored, sitting at home with man flu, I thought I'd set you a little quiz. It's basically a name the artist type challenge based on acts who have all played at A500 at some time or another.

Feel free to tell us about which one's you can't answer in the comments 😀

1. Which artist, who is also known as an accomplished author and environmental campaigner, has sold over a million albums worldwide, and performed with some of the greats of country music like Joan Baez, yet once stood on that tiny stage at Tittensor?
2. Who is the popular singer songwriter, who once turned up so late for a performance, he was still chewing a sandwich when he got onstage to do a line check? Clue… his father was a founder of one of the biggest and most influential folk bands of all time.
3. Some might be surprised to find that this artist is a monumental mason by day. He has also played bass alongside Blues legend PP Arnold in a series of concerts paying tribute to The Band’s ‘Last Waltz’ album
4. An easy one for you. Which artist was first spotted by A500 Music talent scouts when playing small village halls and bars in the vicinity, but has since gone on to win Grammys for her writing talents, contributing to music by stars such as Diana Ross, The Chicks, James Blunt and a certain ‘Ginger Jesus’.
5. Which male performer has performed and recorded alongside the artist hinted at in Q4, and toured the States in the 90’s with his own band Treehouse before going on to write and perform with multi platinum selling artist Edwin McCain
6. Who is the only artist to have been presented with a birthday cake on stage?
7. Name the artist who played the lead in Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ on the West End but never made it to the stage on his first visit to Fulford?
8. Some of these have been too easy, so can you think who is the only Scottish performer we’ve hosted? Actually her guitarist was Scots too. ***
9. I can think of three occasions when people have got up to dance at A500 gigs, can you remember who was playing?
10. Which A500 Music support act went on to perform on a special edition of Bob Harris’s Old Grey Whistle Test show.

*** minus points to the quiz master, as I've just realised there has been another Scottish born artist at A500 Music, though you would never know it due to his very English accent.
ten bonus points to people who get both :)

A shout out to all those who were at our first show back in August 2015, many of whom are still regulars now.
Deb, Big Al, Andy (who discovered W***y Porter was in town and brought along around 30 of his friends and family).
You can't put a value on support like that, especially when you're putting on your first show, and you don't know if anyone at all will turn up.
Then as people got to hear about A500 Music, we've been blessed with many other bookers like Mike and Gwyn, who have been amazing, rounding up large numbers of friends, standing out of money, and all in support of live music, helping us out immeasurably.
As someone said to me today, it's hard to pick a favourite show amongst everything we've put on, but this has to be one of my stand out memories, recorded at our first show and was one of those moments that made you realise what a joy live music, shared with friends can be.

I admit I wasn't the biggest fan of Dolly's music but totally apreciate how talented she was and why she was loved by so many.
Jolene was an absolute belter of a song and has spawned some great covers, not least by one of my favourite artists Mindy Smith who, imo, portrays it more as it was written; an achingly sad song of love and betrayal and not in Dolly's jolly singalong style.
Mindy's version was the one that Dolly loved and endorsed by appearing on the official video and singing backing vocals. So it was nice to find this video of the two of them singing it together in Mindy's more melancholic style.
RIP to a true legend

Another cracking night of music at F' Hall with Thomas Atlas. It's not every gig we put on where people can't resist the urge to get up and boogie but Tom just does that to you... what an incredible artist and a fabulous band 😊

You've got a bit of a break now until September 6th when we welcome Brooke Law & Band to Fulford for the first time. We've taken quite a few reservations already, so if you fancy coming along to this show (and why wouldn't you), you know what to do.
A call, a whatsapp, an email, Facebook message... carrier pigeon? is all it takes to secure your seats now, with payment not required until August.
You can of course buy online and pay the booking fee if that's your thing.

Meanwhile, here's a taster of what went on last night 🙃

Two weeks on from our last event, an intimate afternoon show at Fulford with the amazing Warwickshire band, Speak, Brother.
Standing in at the last minute for support, Nora Bart, was local artist Samantha Lloyd who delighted our audience with a set bursting with great music and effervescent humour.
A belated thank you to every one of you who came out to support us again and also for helping raise an amazing £33 for The Oak Tree Farm RP
As you will know, we have an outstanding artist heading our way at the end of the month in Thomas Atlas and there are now just a dozen or so tickets left for this show (eight online). So do get in touch if you fancy an amazing night of funk/soul/blues
