You will see “fully PAT certified” on our website. But what does it actually mean — and why should you care?

PAT stands for Portable Appliance Testing. It is the safety check every piece of electrical equipment must pass before it is used at your wedding. Cables, speakers, lights, effects — everything.

Combined with our £10 million Public Liability Insurance, it means you are protected. Not just legally, but practically. Your venue will almost certainly ask for both. We provide the certificates without you having to chase.

Safety is not the sexiest wedding topic, but it is one of the most important. Save this post for your venue meeting.

EVENT TECHNICIAN (Sound, Light & Special Effects) – As & When Required**

Alastair Reay Events is looking for experienced technicians to join our team on an as-and-when-required basis.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the setup, operation, and derigging of professional sound, lighting, and special effects equipment for high-end weddings and corporate events across the North East and beyond.

What You'll Do

- Set up and configure professional PA systems, mixing desks, and audio equipment
- Operate stage lighting rigs and intelligent fixtures
- Manage special effects including haze, uplighting, and pyrotechnics
- Oversee safe and professional derigging and equipment handling
- Support event coordination and timing on the day
- Maintain equipment to professional standards
- Work as part of a collaborative technical team

What We're Looking For

- Practical experience with professional audio and lighting equipment
- Knowledge of PA systems, mixing consoles, and stage lighting fixtures
- Understanding of health and safety protocols for event work
- Ability to work flexibly and reliably on event dates
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Professional approach and strong communication
- Valid driving licence and access to own transport (desirable)
