Join artist Luca Sutton for a hands-on, family-friendly craft session, part of Doors to Hallowtide: an new art installation at Lyme this October half term!

You’ll sculpt and paint your own paper pulp ‘soul cakes’ - traditionally spiced alms biscuits given out during the historical Cheshire folk custom of ‘Souling’ on All Hallows Eve. Working with a lightweight paper mulch and clay powder mix, you will form and decorate your own unique prop biscuits! Once finished, these handmade pieces will be weatherproofed and installed as part of the installation across the Lyme estate.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to make your mark on a local heritage project, and when the installation opens, you can visit Lyme with family and friends to search for the very soul cakes you created and decorated!

ONE MONTH TO GO!

You’ve got one month left to catch The Marvel from Marple at Stockroom.

The exhibition explores the life and artwork of Alan Boyson – Marple born designer and artist. His work inspired design across the nation, and his large public creations have formed the backdrop to life in the UK for decades.

If you’ve visited Stockroom, then you’ll know his work (even if you don’t know you know it!)

👀 LOOK UP – Boyson designed massive 4ft by 7ft cast concrete shapes to form a ‘screen’ mural surrounding the Merseyway Multistorey. Since 1970, Boyson’s art has been the backdrop to every visit to the shopping centre.

🏗️ On the 30th of September 1965, 61 years ago, the foundation stone was laid for the Merseyway Shopping Centre. The pictures in this post were taken by Merseyway architect and friend of Boyson, the ‘other’ Marvel from Marple’ Philip Andrew. His photographs show the construction of the screen alongside the centre itself.

📅 To mark this date, the 30th of September will be your LAST CHANCE to see The Marvel From Marple exhibition, find out more about both Philip Andrew and Alan Boyson. PLUS new photographs and video work by Esther Johnson, inspired by Boyson’s Merseyway designs, and original works by Boyson from ceramic sculptures to artworks made with mirrors.

Don’t miss out, plan your visit today!
