We're very lucky and excited to have the wonderful Simon Turner joining us again for our concert on Saturday 27th June, 7.30pm, this time performing Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No.1.

Simon has been principal cello (no 2) of the Hallé for 23 years, enjoying tours with the orchestra to China, South America and across Europe, and concerts at the Proms, the Edinburgh Festival and around Britain. He has performed concertos by Dvorak, Elgar, Tchaikovsky and Brahms with many of Manchester’s local orchestras, He is also a keen chamber musician, playing with his own Chagall Ensemble as well as guesting with other groups, in repertoire from Dowland to Schoenberg. Cheshire Sinfonia are delighted to welcome Simon back and we are very much looking forward to performing the Shostakovich with him.

We are sad to say that we are nearing the time when we will be saying farewell to our orchestra founder and Musical Director, Peter Stallworthy, after 20 plus years. We will be performing the final concert of this season, and our last with Peter at the helm, on Saturday 27th June, 7.30pm, at St Michael & All Angels Bramhall.

It's going to be a lovely evening of wonderful music, including Brahms Symphony No. 4 and the Shostakovich Cello Concerto with the brilliant returning soloist Simon Turner, and we would love for you to join us.

Verdi Requiem. What can you say about this epic work? To experience it in it's glorious majesty, come and hear us accompany the wonderful Cheshire Chorale at St Michael & All Angels Bramhall on Saturday 9th May under the baton of Peter Stallworthy. It will be his last concert with Cheshire Chorale after two decades at the helm so one not to be missed.

In addition to the pastoral works of Copland and Butterworth, for your musical delight we will also be performing Masques et Bergamasques by Fauré, and Haydn's Symphony No.101. The Fauré is an orchestral suite arranged by Fauré himself from his incidental music to a theatrical 'divertissement'. The Haydn symphony is commonly known as 'The Clock' due to its ticking rhythm used throughout the 2nd movement. It is the 9th of the 12 London Symphonies.

Our Spring concert is coming up soon. Join us on Saturday 21st March, 7.30pm St Michael & All Angels Bramhall for another evening of glorious music.

We have a lovely, uplifting programme for you including 'The Banks of Green Willow' by Butterworth and 'Appalachian Spring' by Copland. Both works have folks songs at their heart - Butterworth based his short work on a couple of songs he discovered in 1907, and the Shaker melody 'Simple Gifts' plays a major role in Copland's work.

With a programme to warm the coldest of winter hearts (and bodies!) - the lush harmonies of Korngold's Violin Concerto and our wonderful soloist, David Greed, to the joyful Symphony No.2 by Tchaikovsky and kicking off with Dvorak's lively Scherzo Capriccioso - we're sure to put a smile on your face.
