One of the most obvious flaws in the knife I made 6 years ago was the terrible standards of finishing on the underneath of the handle (Pic 1). Certainly won't be allowing that on the second of the 'Twins' that is currently in progress (Pic 2)

9 hours of sandpapering the handle with progressively higher grades of abrasive paper seems to caused a touch of insanity......

The twins. Same maker, same style, same wood used for the handle.....Separated by 6 years of learning skills and gaining experience. The older one has a 1095 / 15N20 Damascus steel blade and plain brass handle pins. The most recent one has a Hitachi Shirogami San Mai blade and mosaic pins.

I like the way the handle is looking so far!

Managed to buy a tool from my nearest tool supplier and for a change, there isn't anything wrong with it, and I don't need to take it back!

Had a go using the grinding jig today with some scrap steel. Seems to work quite well!

When I first started making knives, I learned to do the grinding freehand firstly because I didn't know of any other way, and secondly because the bench grinder I was using wasn't compatible with a grinding jig. Since upgrading to the 2X72 belt grinder I've tried experimenting with grinding jigs that I've made myself, but never had great success so I've continued doing free hand grinding. A couple of weeks ago I decided to take another gamble and actually buy a grinding jig from Ali-Express. Ali-Express has a reputation about as good as Temu, so I was half expecting the item to arrive made from plastic, or to be only a couple of inches long!
At this stage, I've not tested it out, but my first impressions are good! It's actually bigger than expected, and it's made from decent thickness aluminium with steel fittings. The total including P&P was just under £26! I'll do a full review when I get a chance, but I can't see anything that causes concern or suggests poor build quality other than one small design flaw that's easily fixed.
