Title: Mental Labyrinth
Artist: Valerio Doddi
Size: 70 × 50 cm
Technique: Mixed media on canvas with recycled industrial materials

Description:
Mental Labyrinth is a powerful, highly textured work born from a period of intense anxiety and personal struggle. Valerio Doddi transforms his emotional state into a complex three-dimensional composition, where recycled industrial materials intertwine like obsessive thoughts, forming a disorienting inner maze.
The use of reclaimed materials is not merely aesthetic, but deeply symbolic. Discarded fragments and industrial remnants become a metaphor for accumulated thoughts, suppressed tension, and unresolved emotions. What has been rejected is given new life — mirroring the artist’s attempt to process and reshape inner chaos.
The dominant red embodies anxiety, emotional pressure, and the relentless rhythm of the mind, while the gold elements suggest fleeting moments of clarity — brief attempts to impose meaning and structure within disorder. Drips and splashes, reminiscent of Action Painting, enhance the sense of urgency and loss of control.
Rather than offering a clear escape, the artwork invites the viewer to enter the labyrinth, confront their own inner tensions, and recognise that even within chaos, transformation and meaning can emerge.

Short caption:
Discarded materials turned into emotion.
Red becomes anxiety, chaos becomes thought.
Mental Labyrinth is the art of transforming what is broken into expression.

ABSTRACT

This artwork unfolds as a quiet yet powerful dialogue with the legacy of Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana, not as imitation, but as a contemporary continuation of their radical thinking.
The surface is deliberately wounded and stratified. Cuts, abrasions and ruptures break the apparent calm of the neutral tones, recalling Burri’s visceral relationship with matter and Fontana’s conceptual gesture of opening the canvas beyond its physical limits. These marks are not decorative: they act as thresholds, revealing inner tensions and hidden depths.
The use of recycled materials—polyurethane, cardboard and small stones—anchors the work firmly in the present, transforming discarded elements into a new visual language. Matter becomes memory: industrial residues and humble fragments are elevated, carrying traces of time, wear and resilience. The stones introduce a raw, almost geological presence, grounding the composition and reinforcing its tactile strength.
The restrained palette enhances the sense of silence and reflection, while the rough textures invite the viewer to look slowly, to read the surface as a landscape shaped by erosion, pressure and human intervention. This is a painting that exists between destruction and reconstruction, absence and substance.
Ultimately, the work speaks of transformation: of materials, of space, and of meaning. It stands as a contemporary material painting that honours the experimental spirit of post-war Italian art while asserting its own identity—physical, honest and deeply human.

Textures of Tenderness

In this oval canvas dedicated to the universal essence of motherhood, the figure of the woman and child emerges from recycled materials as though life itself were being reborn from what has been discarded. Fabric, cardboard and textured folds do not seek to build an illusionistic three-dimensional space, but rather a presence that vibrates with authenticity, where matter becomes a symbol of care, sacrifice and renewal.

The artist deliberately chooses not to conceal the brushstroke. The visible lines of the brush run across faces and drapery like traces of a time that refuses to be smoothed away. This is a poetic gesture: motherhood is never a polished surface, but a constellation of marks, hardships, tenderness and resilience. Allowing the brushstroke to remain visible reveals the very act of creation, as if each stroke were a breath, a pulse, an intimate declaration of the process itself.

The faces, gently leaning into one another, appear through these layered textures with quiet intensity. They are not rendered through meticulous detail, but evoked—like figures protected by a veil of light. The dark oval surrounding them is not merely a background; it is night, a cosmic womb, a silent expanse that shelters and amplifies the maternal bond.

While the work echoes the iconography of the Madonna and Child, it transcends religious symbolism. Here, divinity arises not from an imposed halo but from the meeting of fragile matter and steadfast love. The use of recycled materials, together with unapologetically visible brushstrokes, transforms the image into something profoundly human and universal: motherhood as continual reconstruction, as the art of shaping the world with what one has, what remains, and what one truly is.

In this painting, matter speaks, light breathes, and colour does not hide its own body. It is an ode to motherhood as a primal creative force—a beauty that does not polish itself, but reveals itself.

METEORA
Meteora appears as though it has fallen from the heavens themselves. Its richly textured surface—crafted from stones, polyurethane and other industrial materials—resembles the rugged skin of a meteorite that has endured heat, friction and the vast silence of space. The crimson splashes carve dynamic trajectories across the canvas, capturing the fleeting yet incandescent passage of a celestial fragment streaking through the atmosphere.

Critically, the work stands as a striking example of contemporary pittoscultura, where substance becomes expression and depth becomes storytelling. The artist transforms raw, industrial matter into an ancient, almost geological terrain, blending spontaneous mark-making with sculptural density. The diagonal sweep of reds and earthy tones suggests velocity, collision and renewal, mirroring the emotional impact that meteors, both real and symbolic, imprint upon the human imagination.

Meteora is not simply an image of the cosmos—it is a tangible shard of it.

THE BREATH OF UNIVERSE
This relief painting, crafted from recycled materials such as rope and stones, expresses a powerful fusion of spirituality, universal energy and the enduring strength of love. The central divine eye becomes a symbol of awareness and inner vision. Surrounding it, the heart and the infinity sign merge into a single organic shape, representing the continuity of life and the boundless nature of love.

The dominant blue, illuminated by soft white strokes, heightens the meditative quality of the piece. Light seems to radiate from the centre outward, as if energy were expanding into the world. Above all, the OM symbol crowns the composition, embodying creation, vibration and the primordial origin of existence. The use of humble recycled materials gives the artwork a dual essence: earthly and spiritual, transforming everyday elements into a cosmic message.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PAINTING

At the centre of the painting stands a sculpted divine eye made from rope and recycled textures, enclosed within a heart that seamlessly blends with the infinity symbol. Rays of light extend outward from the core, while the OM symbol placed at the top represents creation and universal consciousness. The interplay of blue and white brushstrokes creates a vibrant, luminous atmosphere.

SACRED FAMILY –

In this 50x50 artwork, Valerio Doddi reimagines the Sacred Family through a living, tactile language made of humble, reclaimed materials — paper cloth, polystyrene, jute and polyurethane. These elements, born from everyday life and often discarded, are transformed by the artist into a new form of spirituality, becoming body, gesture and breath.

Mary, Joseph and the Child emerge from a soft, enveloping structure, as if shaped from the very dust of time. Their silhouettes, essential and circular, rise from the textured surface as symbols of intimacy and protection. Each crease, each fold, each grain of material seems to contain a silent gesture of love — a movement of care, a whisper of tenderness, a timeless promise of unity.

Above the family, an angel spreads its wings like a blessing in motion. Its presence hovers delicately, suggesting guidance and divine shelter. At the centre of the wings shines the Eye — the symbol of God who sees, understands and embraces. It watches over the scene not with judgement, but with infinite awareness and calm, suspended between the earthly and the eternal.

Warm tones of ochre, beige and soft earth colours flow across the composition, evoking the atmosphere of ancient nativity scenes, the quiet dust of desert paths, the warmth of a home built from simplicity. The richness of the material relief transforms the canvas into a physical space, inviting the viewer not only to see the image but to feel it, almost to touch its spiritual pulse.

By elevating materials of everyday use, the artwork becomes a meditation on the sacredness hidden within the humble. The Sacred Family is not presented as distant or idealised, but close, human, tangible. It becomes a symbol of love that is fragile yet eternal, born from the hands that shape it and from the faith that animates it.

This piece radiates a quiet, ancient warmth — a reminder that the divine often resides in what is simple, imperfect and profoundly human.

ONDA D'URTO- shock wave
The artwork "Onda d'urto" by Valerio Doddi immediately captures attention with its powerful simplicity and the depth of its red hue. Created on canvas, using recycled materials, industrial components, and small stones, the piece seems to evoke the violent and unstoppable movement of a shockwave, suggesting both a visual and emotional impact. The concentric curves create a sense of dynamism and tension, as if the energy of the wave has been captured at its peak moment.

The use of recycled and industrial materials gives the work a raw and tactile aesthetic, perhaps reminding us of the scars and effects left by a traumatic event or an explosion on the landscape and surfaces. The small stones add an additional layer of texture, reinforcing the idea of a physical, violent interaction between forces.

The dominant red color can symbolize many things, from passion to anger, danger, and destruction. In the context of the artwork, it seems to communicate an explosive, almost primordial energy. With "Onda d'urto," the artist appears to explore the concept of impact, not only physical but also psychological, suggesting how external forces can influence matter and spirit, deforming and altering both in unexpected ways.

This digital artwork originates from an original tattoo drawing, where the Sacred Heart becomes a universal symbol of energy, faith, and rebirth. The flame, cross, and thorns express the link between heaven and earth, sacrifice and inner strength. In this mandala version, the artist turns the heart into a geometry of the soul — every line a meditation, every shadow a breath. Against the dark background, pale mandalas shine like silent light. The work blends hand-drawn emotion with digital vision, turning a mark once made on skin into a mark upon memory — a bridge between spirituality and the modern world
