Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts Stockport meet on Saturday mornings from 10AM - 1PM offering lessons in Musical Theatre, Comedy and Drama, Film and Television. We enjoy showcases throughout the year and cinema screenings of

students work. As well as offering fantastic opportunities to perform in the West End, enter film festivals and for those looking for a professional platform the option is available to join our FANTASTIC Quirky Kidz agency! The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts in Stockport meet every Saturday from 9.45am-1pm (AM Academy) and 1.45pm-5pm (PM Academy). PQA offer first-class tuition in Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama, and Film & Television!

WHAT WE DO PQA is a weekend performing arts Academy providing tuition for children and young people from 4-18 years. Students spend three hours with us, rotating through hour-long sessions in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre and Film & Television. Students are split into groups according to their age and are taught by specialist teachers.

OUR SPECIALIST MODULES, PACKED FULL OF TIPS THAT PAULINE HAS LEARNT FROM NEARLY 50 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS, WILL TEACH YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO ACT, SING, DANCE OR DIRECT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL.

COMEDY & DRAMA These sessions are devoted to expanding our students' knowledge of different theatrical forms and techniques. This includes everything from improvisation and devised theatre to mime, mask, script work and vocal techniques – including projection and diction. Theatre games help with confidence-building, self-esteem, teamwork and communication skills where the use of imagination and the tools of storytelling are emphasised. Students are encouraged to explore different staging options, including 'in-the-round,' 'promenade' and even site-specific work – all designed to give them the broadest acting tuition possible.

MUSICAL THEATRE We combine elements of singing, dancing and acting in this module because, in a musical, performers need to use all three to convey a story to the audience. We teach our students a range of vocal and dance techniques and they also get the chance to work on scenes that move into musical numbers.This gives them the ability to pass from dialogue to song and dance seamlessly within the performance process, using all three techniques to enhance the story for the audience.

FILM & TELEVISION Acting for the screen is very different to acting on stage and here we look at the very honest and truthful style required for the camera. Students will get the chance to see how writing for Film and TV works as well as try the roles of director, camera operator, and other production roles. Students work from a mixture of real film and TV scripts as well as creating material themselves.

Along with specific skills-based sessions, our students learn by actually making film projects – from silent movies and pop promos to short films, documentaries and 'mini-features.'

Best of all, we hold special screening events at local cinemas where we show all the film projects to an invited audience of family and friends. That's our students, up there, on the same big screen they normally watch the latest blockbuster on.

PQA is the largest provider of Film & Television classes for under 18s in the UK.
