A rare one.

For the first time in a long time, a space at GRIT Canal Street Stockport will be becoming available next month.

This is an incredibly uncommon occurrence, and we're sharing this purely as a heads-up for those already on our waiting list.

If you're currently waiting for a space, keep a close eye on your inbox (and your junk folder) next week, as we'll be sending size/pricing details directly.

No applications are being taken via socials.

If you're on the list, you'll hear from us soon.

A year ago, the Rainbow Road started with a simple conversation about running some ceramic workshops with Francis House Children's Hospice.

Fast forward 12 months, and it has grown into something far bigger than any of us imagined.

Working alongside Francis House, GRIT Studios has coordinated a community-wide project bringing together artists, young people, volunteers, local businesses and residents to create a 5km trail of handcrafted ceramic tiles stretching across Didsbury and Heaton Mersey.

Every tile along the route has been handmade by local people during workshops led by GRIT resident artists and

The tiles were then fired locally before being carefully installed by the GRIT team and the brilliant volunteers from

Along the way, dozens of residents and businesses have supported the project by allowing tiles to be installed on their properties, helping to turn the trail into something that truly belongs to the whole community.

The trail map was designed by GRIT resident artist , who worked with local people through a series of creative workshops to develop the ideas and bring the route to life.

Projects like this don’t happen by accident. They happen because communities come together, share ideas, volunteer their time and say “yes” when asked to help.

We’re incredibly proud to have helped coordinate and deliver the Rainbow Road and even prouder of everyone who has played a part in making it happen.

Download the trail map at www.fhrainbowroad.co.uk and see how many tiles you can find 🌈

For those that maybe don't know, GRIT Studios was born out of Art Battle Manchester. Back in 2013, we started putting on an energetic fun art event that showcased local artists.

Over the last 13 years we've worked with over 300 artists (who repeatedly told us about the need for affordable studio space) and over 20,000 people have attended our events - many who don't go to art galleries.

Anyway, next Friday, we're bringing the battle to Stockport County. We'll be creating festival vibes as we turn the fan zone courtyard area into a big painty battle ground:

A little peek inside the mothership… the original GRIT Studios in Stockport.
maisie & spent the day meeting some of our longest-standing residents, uncovering the stories, skills and serious talent tucked away inside this backstreet Aladdin’s cave.

From mosaics to stained glass, painters to ceramics — every corner holds something brilliant 🖤

We loved watching these two Wind in the Willows figures by Jodie Silverman evolve in the Manchester studio — but it’s even better seeing them out in the wild, exactly where they belong.

There’s something special about watching studio work take on a whole new life once it meets the landscape, the weather, and the people passing by.

The best news is, you can visit them yourself!

The Wind in the Willows trail has opened at Tinkley Gate, Woodchester Park, to mark the 50th birthday of the National Wildlife Management Centre which is based at the Gloucestershire site. It’s on until the 28th June.

We’re excited to see some of our GRIT artists popping up at Mews Fest this weekend at Great Northern Warehouse☀️🎨

& both have a stall selling their creative wares.
And will have some crafty activities for you to get stuck into.

With sunshine and warm weather on the cards, it’s the perfect weekend to get out, explore, and support local independent businesses & creatives.

Expect stalls, activities, great food, drinks, music at and plenty happening across the site.

We love having GRIT based at Great Northern Warehouse — being surrounded by such an amazing community of independent businesses creates so many opportunities for our artists and makers, and this weekend is a brilliant chance to celebrate them all together.

Come down, say hello, and make a day of it 🌞

Meet Liz, the brilliant force behind Sew-it-seams at our Kingston studios ✂️🧵

From beginner stitchers to seasoned makers, Liz runs sewing classes & workshops for all levels — creating a welcoming space where creativity, confidence and community come together. And she’s recently taken a huge step by launching her brand new website, where you can discover more about her classes, workshops and sewing journey.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Liz is also the official seamstress for Love Sewing — the UK’s favourite sewing magazine.

But wait… there’s more about Liz than meets the eye 👀

✨ She was crowned “Baker of the Week” on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice (Series 15, Episode 2 — around the 30-minute mark!)
✨ Nigella Lawson once told her she liked her hair
✨ She has danced on stage with Showaddywaddy’s lead singer and Edwin Starr (not at the same time 😂)
✨ She achieved 4th place in the IDTA West Midlands disco dancing competition for 12–16 year olds two years running — cruelly, no medal for 4th place!
✨ And in another life, Liz was a solicitor specialising in “death and taxes” ⚖️

Honestly, we’re not entirely sure there’s anything Liz can’t do. Sewing expert, baker, dancer, legal brain and all-round legend.
Go and show her some love — and check out her new website: www.Sew-It-Seams.net

Our tribute to Mani has been finished. The legendary street artist .One.Art spent 3 weeks lovingly creating this mural in the heart of Failsworth. An area where Mani grew up and a place that didn't previously have much street art.

Not only is it a landmark piece for Failsworth, we're raising money for cause that was close to Mani and his wife Imelda's hearts. They leaned on Maggie's during her cancer treatment and later fundraised for them too. It feels like the right way to make this mean something beyond the wall.

Be sure to make a pilgrimage to see one of Manchester's most loved sons, and if you can spare a few quid for the amazing Maggie's Manchester please donate here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/mani-mural

Thank you

We’re absolutely fascinated by the work of one of our newest Gritters

Her recent work depicts council estate signs carved into birch ply, that resemble plaques or murals. It’s been so interesting to learn the thought, skill & meaning behind them.

We’ll let Chloe explain more, but do also go & check out her page.

“Nostalgia is a big part of my work ~ what i consume & what i produce. For me, it’s also a main part of how i process my grief that i live with & find a sense of self.
making this work, it got me thinking about the paradox of that nostalgia of growing up on estates & the friction of aspiration, (social “climbing”/mobility; climbing the class ceiling) as well as growing up & moving on - & the structural limitations that come with it.”
