The world’s oldest football — one of Scotland’s most remarkable historical objects — is leaving its home at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum to travel across the Atlantic for the very first time. ⚽️🏴
Upon arrival in the United States, it will go on display at the Coral Gables Museum in Miami as part of their headline exhibition, Diplomacy and the Beautiful Game: From Scotland to Brazil to Haiti, where it will be on view to the public from 20 to 26 June.
In a historic moment, the ball will also be attending the World Cup match between Brazil and Scotland on 24 June, marking the first time in its near 500-year history that the ball will attend a FIFA World Cup game. ⚽
The project is a partnership between the Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum, the Brazilian Consulate in Scotland, the Consulate General of Brazil in Miami and Coral Gables Museum, with funding support from Banco do Brasil.
Additional support has been provided by Islander UK, Harris Tweed Scotland, Click Netherfield and Constantine Fine Art Handlers, helping to prepare, protect and present the football and associated exhibition materials for the journey to Miami. 💫
