Looking for a new hobby? We are recruiting new members.
Do you live in or around Stirling and Forth Valley or the Lothians and enjoy outings and activities which are both informative and social? Do you enjoy or appreciate 'Art' in every, or some, of its wide variety of forms? No need to be an artist, most of us aren't, and if any of this sounds interesting you might like to consider joining The Arts Society Stirling & Forth Valley. We are one of only 11 societies based in Scotland and affliated to the national The Arts Society which has around 380 societies around the UK, Europe and International Partners in New Zealand and Australia.

We are a friendly group of people who have similar interests to you and our aim is to enjoy ourselves whilst learning about the arts. We meet for approximately an hour and a 15 minutes every 3rd Thursday of the month between September and June for a lecture at The Albert Halls, Stirling starting at 11.00. The cafe and visitor booking is open from 10.00 am and we usually hold a raffle connected to the lecture subject.

We offer in person lectures in a lovely setting for members and visitors. There is also the option of live stream on zoom for members who can't be there in person or have limited time available. Here's one I came across in Monthly Highlights around the UK. For those of you thinking of a visit to The Borders, you may want to visit the new exhibition "Border lands", at Hawick.

Past, Present, Future: The Royal Scottish Academy in the Borders at Hawick Museum& Gallery explores the thread between the Royal Scottish Academy – currently celebrating its bicentenary year – and the landscape of the Scottish Borders, which has long inspired its members. Historic works by artists such as Anne Redpath and Thomas Scott sit alongside those by present-day Academicians including Victoria Crowe, George Donald and Jake Harvey, showing how such subject matter has been reimagined across the generations. Seen here is "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" (1993) by the internationally acclaimed painter Andrew Cranston, who was born in Hawick. Drawn largely from Scottish Borders Council’s own holdings, Past, Present, Future is a fitting bicentenary tribute. It continues until 5 October.

Looking for a new interest to keep your mind sharp whilst enjoying yourself, then you may want to consider The Arts Society.

Here's a look at some of the things members can do.

We love York and several of us from our Scottish Societies enjoyed being there for the National AGM where we heard from Hilary Kay, of The Antiques Roadshow etc and our National President, and The Trustees, how she and The Arts Society have been doing and plans for the future.

Thanks for the warm welcome from local members on a very hot June day. Well worth a visit as is our beautiful and historic city of Stirling, just named top UK city to visit in Time Out's list. Experience some of what The Arts Society has to offer you through your local society The Arts Society Stirling & Forth Valley.

Not every city can boast of 2,000 years of history within its ancient walls – but York certainly can.

In our newest issue, The Arts Society York and The Arts Society Ebor tell us what not to miss in the storied city – from the ever-popular Jorvik Viking Centre, which promises a step back in time to the 10th century, to the outstanding ceramics collection at York Art Gallery.
They also share delights to be found a little further afield in Yorkshire, such as the Baroque masterpiece Castle Howard and the ultra-contemporary Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
