Welcome back to Spooks and Bogles for the start of our Sixth Season!

To start with we venture to unknown lands...on the borders of True Crime, with a look at how sensationalist coverage of real events - the 'Bible John' murders on 1968-69 - shaped not just perceptions of the case, but six decades worth of misleading myth and local lore for communities in Glasgow and the greater Clyde Valley.

Nothing too lurid or graphic, though sensitive listeners may find parts of this episodes disturbing - and THEY might wish to avoid THIS One.

Witches, fairies, spooks and bogles WILL return, next time around, I promise.

Stirling GhostWalk performances continue at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays - book for these (and our Hallowe'en Week shows!) at stirlingghostwalk.com or oldtownjail.co.uk

And, of course....the Spooks & Bogles podcast is back, too! Tomorrow, in fact! This week looking at the evolution of a modern Urban Bogey-Man (or MEN), and the unseemly ways that perspectives of REAL events are often shaped by Story!

This weekend...the LAST Spooks and Bogles before the Summer-Season starts we explore MY Dark Places. No, DON'T get excited....I mean the sites linked to that oft-tagged trope of the Heritage Industry....the notion of Dark Tourism - with the help of Sigmund Freud and the Greek God of Death, Thanatos. S&B back in September

As my own dissappears, we look at the importance of voices in representing different aspects of Scottisj folklore - from the siren-song of the Selkie, to the seductive call of the Silkie and Kelpie and - in the mountain caverns of the Highlands, the secret-origin of the Echo.

This week...an extended version of my Wolf In The Fold piece fom the Culture Night 'Carnival Of The Wolf' - looking at the ironic iconic linl between the Burgh's predator-turned-protector and the Burgh Baillies.

More beastly, still, bronchiectasis has done a number on my throat - so I'll apologise in advance for my voice

No Ghostwalk on Friday 8th May.

A music event is being staged in the grounds of the Old Town Jail - nothing to do with the Jail, itself - so, from past experience, the noise in the OT would spoil The Hangman's tales.

GW returns Saturday 9th!

This week - childish rites of passion, links to celtic tradsitions for choosing the perfect parner...and their much MUCH OLDER ROOTA.

Ghostwalks continue every 8pm Friday and Saturday (except 8th May, when a brainless music event will drown-out the Old Town - NOTHING to do with us!), tickets available at stirlingghostwalk.com and oldtownjail.co.uk
