Quilt-making and teaching are passions of mine. My love of fabric started at an early age and I now teach from my studio in Edinburgh and on a freelance basis. My travels are a constant source of inspiration to me. Adventures in Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong have proved very inspirational but recent commissioned work have been about locations closer to home – the Highlands and islands of Scotland. My work has been widely exhibited in the UK and in the USA and can be viewed on my website. http://www.patarchibald.com/
Joyce Watson
Joyce has gained wide experience teaching textile art, patchwork and quilting and embroidery throughout Scotland. Her interest in the use of fabrics and mixed media led to her gaining a distinction in her 4 year City and Guilds course and she has exhibited her prize-winning wall hangings nationally and internationally. Margaret Morrow
Margaret has a teaching background and has completed her City and Guilds parts 1 & 2. She has always enjoyed creative sewing and craftwork and feels a major benefit from the C&G was to teach her how to look at things in a new light. Margaret particularly likes to work with texture and colour, an enthusiasm which she passes on to her students. She has recently moved house and has new studio which is inspiring her to new work. Jan Watson
Jan trained as a teacher of Home Economics and has been quilting since the late 1970s. She completed City and Guilds part 1 in 1999. Her background is in needlework and dressmaking rather than art and design, but City and Guilds definitely changed her approach and increased her output. Alison Drayson
Alison has sewn since childhood but only began to quilt after enforced early retirement at age 50. She has done City and Guilds Patchwork and Quilting parts 1&2 and now makes mainly art quilts, with a particular focus on the use of colour and machine embellishment. Sheena Reeman
I learned to sew at my Mother’s knee and have been sewing on and off ever since. It was not until I retired from a career in teaching that I have been able to indulge my passion more intensively, attending various courses and workshops by leading textile artists and experimenting with new techniques. I prefer the “serendipity effect” rather than precision piecing and like to add texture with embroidery and embellishments. As a new member of the group I am looking forward to the challenge of working on a common theme and hope to bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn from others. Chrystine Livingston
I am a keen photographer, gardener, cook, singer and mixed media artist. I started quilting in 2010 when I joined the Glasgow Gathering of Quilters in order to make friends in the city and discovered much to my surprise, that I both loved art quilting and had a certain aptitude for it. I have won prizes at both the Loch Lomond Quilt show and the Scottish Quilt show at the SEC. On completion of my City and Guilds course in Stitched Textiles in 2017 I was invited by the Quilters Guild to exhibit my work in the Student's gallery at the Festival of Quilts- an honour and a privilege. This has been my route into the world of art. Senga Bain
I started patchwork and was immediately hooked, but I was very quickly drawn to the creativity and freedom of art quilting. I took the plunge and entered my first art quilt into the beginners “themed” category at the Loch Lomond quilt show and to my surprise and delight was awarded Gold. My quilting continued and I have since gained Gold for several quilts entered at the Loch Lomond quilt show and at the Scottish Quilt show in Glasgow. I completed my City and Guilds Patchwork and quilting certificate with Creative Stitch Suffolk and was selected to display in the Further Education Gallery at the Festival of Quilts in 2017. Although I am primarily an art quilter, I’m passionate about all quilting and I now want to share my knowledge and to teach others. NOTE
Members have differing numbers of quilts displayed on this site. This is because the membership has changed over time, with new members joining and others moving on, and not all members have contributed to all the collections. Similarly, quilts which may have been exhibited as part of a collection in the past will not appear on this website if the quilter is not a current member of the group.
