🕊️ Victory in Europe Day 🕊️

Today, on VE Day, we pause to remember a pivotal moment in modern history — the end of World War II in Europe on 8 May 1945. It was a day marked by profound relief, collective mourning, and the long-awaited promise of peace.

In honour of this occasion, we are proud to share the recent exceptional sale at Sworders of a painting that captures the very moment history changed course.

🖼️ The German Surrender at Lüneburg Heath, 4 May 1945

Cuneo’s powerful composition commemorates the formal surrender of German forces in Northern Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands — signed in a tent on Lüneburg Heath in the presence of Field Marshal Montgomery. Painted with Cuneo’s hallmark precision and atmosphere, this work encapsulates both the tension and the quiet gravity of that world-altering day.
