Many of our long term RAS members will remember Diana Dixon. She was Chairman of RAS until 2017. She remained a member for some time after that but took a less active role as her husband was ill. A while after he passed she moved away from the area to be closer to her family.

We were very sad to hear from her daughter that she died on 24th April from blood cancer.

Diana was a lovely lady, and a brilliant artist.

I remember when I joined RAS she was so helpful, friendly and encouraging to me personally, and continued to patiently put up with all my questions when I took over as Chairman from her in 2017.

I'm sure all of our members past and present who remember her will want to send their love and best wishes to her family. Hopefully some of them will join me in posting their messages and memories in tribute to her below.

A few photos below, which should bring back some happy memories.

RAS members may remember that we did some work with the Egham Museum for their Georgian Ball back in January. They are holding an Exhibition in the United Church of Egham from next Wednesday to Saturday, which will include some of the work we did for them. So another chance for people to see the work of RAS members there again. This will finish on the Saturday 13th June which is the day they are celebrating Magna Carta Day in Egham, so there will be lots of other things to do and see in the town.

The results of the Public Vote at our Spring Exhibition are now in.

The winner of our Spring Shield for 2026 is Jane Hitch, with her beautiful 'Gull Island' painting which won 22 votes. Double congratulations go to Jane as she has also won the Elliott Trophy!!

The scoring this year was very spread out across all of our entries, showing just how good a standard everybody has achieved this year.

Second place in the voting was a tie between Richard Emmett with his 'The Heath', and Robyn Lister with 'Chow Chow Paws', both of which achieved 18 votes.

For members wanting to know their own scores, the full list will be available at painting on Wednesday.

Another successful exhibition draws to a close. Over 350 visitors, this time, slightly down on the last one, but less student visitors from RH. Fourteen paintings were sold. It always amazes us how complimentary all of our visitors are on the standard of work RAS produces. Several people expressed an interest in joining us, we hope to see some of them on a Wednesday afternoon over the next few weeks. For those who would like to see more of our work, our next mini-exhibition will be at the Englefield Green Village Fair on 20th June, so not long to wait. Thanks to everyone who came, visitors and members, especially to all of those who helped with stewarding.

Good to see Cllr Jaz Mavi at our exhibition today.

We have our first awards. The Mayor Cllr Steve Ringham has judged the Joy of Art award, themed 'My Faithful Friend', and chosen Richard Emmett's 'Telling The Bees'. He felt that it held an important message of the importance of bees to the environment and the importance of the beekeeper to the bees. Congratulations Richard.
