A WONDERFUL VISIT TO WADDESDON MANOR
For the final visit of the year 30 people visited a very festive Waddesdon Manor on a cold November afternoon visiting the house which was spectacularly and beautifully decorated retelling the tale of Sleeping Beauty. Of course the style of the manor lends itself to the story, even incorporating the spiral staircase, stunning Christmas trees throughout and even a huge paper dragon.
As darkness fell a light show played on the front of the house for over 10 minutes, cleverly done and changing constantly. Many of us took the opportunity to purchase some festive gifts and treats from the Christmas market that led up to the house and enjoy something to eat and drink, ranging from fish and chips to a beautiful afternoon tea in the house. Fully restored, we set off for the light trail, set in the gardens close to the house, offering very effective lighting viewed from different areas of the garden.
Thanks to Bronwen Mills for arranging this special afternoon which was enjoyed by us all.

Wednesday's meeting about the history and development of Canary Wharf, was a fascinating exploration. One of those times you realise how much there is to know and understand about the world around us. Charlie Foreman's memorable and insightful talk takes us into our summer break (we resume in September).

VISIT TO HAMPSHIRE 9th July 2024
Longstock Gardens & Water Park
Romsey Abbey

This outing proved to be popular with a waiting list for the first time in many years! Once again, our wonderful blue badge guide, Bronwen Mills, put together an interesting and very varied day trip to Hampshire for us and we were joined by members of the Windsor Arts Society and residents from Audley Village. The rain didn’t dampen the spirits and we arrived promptly in Romsey for a chance to explore the Norman abbey, a couple of small museums, various shops, find lunch and even enjoy a piano recital by the Organ Scholar at Romsey Abbey! Some of the group were able to meet up with friends, others enjoyed a walk around the town and two people went to find where the blue plaques were located. Romsey proved to be a very good town to visit; situated on the river test, links to Lord Palmerston and the Mountbatten family, the abbey with so much to see and with some very good guides.
