The house came alive tonight! Forgive the dodgy video - I was avoiding children (!) - but I had to capture it, stood outside of a room listening to a Sandwell school group singing on their residential.

Hanging on the wall at Ingestre is a poem titled "A House Without People" that a 10 year old wrote some years ago. It goes:

A house without people
Is nothing at all.
That could have happened
To Ingestre Hall.
But its doors remain open
For studying the Arts
Which gives Ingestre Hall
A brand new heart.
There may not be Earls
Here anymore,
But there is life
In Ingestre Hall.

So all of this after watching kids trying food that they'd not had before, and coming back for more. And then running around in the dark with torches playing Glow Worms.

You just can't do this on a day visit - residentials are magic. What a sense of belonging and, I hope, memories for a lifetime those children will have.

Today we waved farewell to three schools from the same multi-academy trust!

A residential is a fantastic way for schools in a MAT to meet and build connections and community through working together. This is particularly beneficial if they’re primary schools that feed into the same secondary as it eases transition.

It’s also serves as a brilliant opportunity for smaller schools to achieve the minimum numbers for a residential!

We bid farewell to our last school group on Friday before the holidays, and so we thought we’d take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for the festive season and into 2026!

Here’s just a few of us outside the big house after we waved them off, but the greeting comes from everyone at Ingestre.
