The first recorded meeting of the the Stafford & District Operatic Society was held on Tuesday 21st November, 1922, when twenty enthusiasts with a passion for performing arts first got-together at the Sheridan Hotel, Stafford. From the 6th-9th February, 1924, a fledgling Society staged it's first production - 'The Mikado' - at Stafford’s former Borough Hall, now home to the area's premier arts ven
ue - Stafford Gatehouse Theatre. Now with over 100 shows under-the-belt, the Society has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years; with shows becoming more popular, membership increasing and audiences coming back time-and-time again to see the fantastic quality performances put on by it's members. We are now very proud to support 'Musical Youth Theatre Stafford' (MYTS). For more information on upcoming events and news from the MYTS log on to www.myts.org.uk. In recent years the society has found itself performing less operatic works and more musical theatre - adapting to a changing audience and performer alike. As such in 2016 we agreed a new logo, name and strategy for the group, and renamed ourselves Musical Theatre Stafford to better reflect the work we perform.
