A cultural hub in the heart of St Andrews, the Byre Theatre is home to a packed programme of performances, screenings, exhibitions & events all year round.

Sands: International Film Festival of St Andrews 2026 was a great success, marking its milestone fifth edition with world-renowned guests including Laura Mulvey, Charlie Kaufman, Gary Clark and Craig Armstrong.

The three-day festival in April saw the Byre and other venues throughout St Andrews abuzz with cinephiles, experts and stars, all coming together to celebrate their love of film.

But Sands isn’t just for April. Our Sands Selection screenings during the year keep that buzz going, pairing great films with great discussion.

Join us this month for a special screening of Everybody to Kenmure Street (12A), followed by a post-show discussion with Director Felipe Bustos Sierra and Tabassum Niamat, who features in the film.

This crucial, timely film reflects the bold, distinctive voice of Sands.

“I want to be learning and doing interesting stuff until I drop.”

So says Company Chordelia's artistic director Kally Lloyd-Jones, chatting all things Revel with Kelly Apter in the latest issue of The List.

Kally discusses learning not to care what others think and fighting for greater visibility for performers of a certain age.

Revel is a charming coming-of-age story about life in your 60s with all its losses, gains and adjustments so come revel in Kally and fellow dancer Steinvör Palsson’s dance and laughter.

There are the elements you see every visit, and then there are the moments you’ll never see – find out more about the Byre. 👀

It’s Doors Open Days on Saturday 5 September, so pop in and get to know your theatre that little bit better.

Fun facts:

❤️It took a lot of work to open the doors to the ‘new’ Byre building 25 years ago, and 370 people and groups who took part in the Raising the Roof fundraising scheme are recognised in the Byre book of slates.

⭐ There are 101 stars in our Stars of the Byre wall, honouring the theatre’s stars, past and present, on stage and behind the scenes. Could you be the next star?

🎉We decorate every single floor of the theatre for our three-day Sands: International Film Festival of St Andrews every year.

🖌️Dozens or designers and technicians have found themselves painting panto scenery in an August heatwave - or the stage in a chilly November.

🪜It’s all hands on deck for the tech team on each show’s get-in day.

👄 Head to Level 1 and discover the special kissing stone – kissing the stone is actively discouraged these days!

Join us for Door Open Day and discover even more about the Byre!
