Meet some of the members of our community who took part in Daisy Arts ‘s Art For Everyone: Discovering Your Creative Voice workshops, held between April and July.

Their artwork is now featured in our temporary exhibition, Here We Are: This Is Us.

HERE WE ARE: THIS IS US is a powerful exhibition celebrating the identity, creativity, and stories of our community through artwork created by local residents in collaboration with artists Dawn Belshaw and Jane Crawford.

☕🍰 Join us this Saturday (12th September) for a FREE Mayoress at Home event! 🍰☕

Come along to Spennymoor Town Hall on Saturday 12th September, 10am–12 noon, for a relaxed morning with the Mayor and Mayoress.

Enjoy a cuppa, light refreshments, and the opportunity to meet members of the local community in a friendly and welcoming setting. There will also be a raffle and tombola, with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s chosen charity, Spennymoor Boxing Academy. 🥊

✨⭐️New Art Wellbeing Group coming to Spennymoor Town Hall this September⭐️✨

Colours of Spennymoor, Art Wellbeing Group with artist Jayne Blacklock 🎨

📍Thursdays 10.00am – 12.00pm in the Gallery Maker Space: Pay What You Decide

Do you want to share time in a warm, welcoming community of like-minded people whilst learning new creative skills and techniques? Do you want to forget daily worries whilst you socialise, create and build your confidence in art? Do you want to feel inspired and learn from others?

If the answer is YES then join artist Jayne Blacklock at our adult art workshops using a range of mediums and techniques to create your own artwork. From pencil, charcoal, soft pastel and paint, you will be guided and tutored through how to use each one to explore a range of subjects, giving you confidence and skills to then produce your own work.

No need to bring anything except yourself and an open mind! Initially running as two groups, each fortnightly, choose which group suits you best:

- Starting on September 10th and then running every two weeks, our group for artists with experience of techniques and using a range of mediums

- Starting on September 17th and then running every two weeks, our group for beginners or those who may have dabbled a little, who want to learn more, may lack confidence or need help getting started.

Sessions run termly and are free, however a ‘Pay What You Decide’ donation is welcome towards resources and materials.

Join us on tomorrow (Saturday 5th September), 10am–4pm for a friendly community event celebrating all things Spennymoor!

There’ll be a range of organisations hosting information stalls, plus the Bloom, Create & Bake event to enjoy. The Bob Abley Art Gallery & Mining Museum will also be open, offering even more to explore.

☕ The NEW Pit Stop Café will be open for the duration of the event.

Friday 4th September 2026 - Judging - 6:00pm

Saturday 5th September 2026 - Public Viewing - 10:00am - 4:00pm

Saturday 5th September 2026 - Lifting (entrants collect exhibits) - 4.30pm - 5:00pm

Wednesday 9th September 2026 - Prize Money to be paid out - Collect from reception - Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm

Important Information

Competition open to Spennymoor parishioners ONLY (adults - identity needed)
Entry fee: 50p per class
Vases for flowers to be provided by exhibitors
Baking judged on appearance and taste. Allergen information MUST be detailed. Plates will be provided.
Rail will be provided for crochet / knitted items
Responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that all exhibits are booked & displayed in the correct class area
Exhibitors’ responsibility to collect exhibits as per the designated time
Entry via the Main Hall Entrance / Lift available if needed / Free car park at rear of Town Hall
