,We have been asked on a few occasions how our fund raising is going, and how much we have raised.
I completely understand about the need to be transparent.
The Spalding Flower Parade is vital to South Holland and it’s vital that the community trusts us.
The Parade takes place on the second weekend of May, and our tax year ends on 31st May.
This means that sometimes, like 2025, we have received monies in that tax year, but some large invoices are received late, falling in the next tax year creating a profit that generates a corporation tax bill, which naturally had to be paid. The latest one was for just under £3,000, some of which I understand is recoverable.
So, being transparent with you all, we have just under £7,000 of readily available funds.
We are nine months away from the 2027 parade, which is planned for the weekend of 7th and 8th of May.
We have an amazing team of volunteers who have not only been busy with next years floats, but also have been out on the road raising money with our stall at numerous events.
Historically much of our monies come in in the new year and continue right up to the parade itself, but this will not be taken for granted.
£7,000 in readily available funds may not seem much, however we are in a better position than in August 2024 when the committee of the time took the decision to go ahead with the 2025 parade.
Also at that time there were no floats under construction either but the Parade still went ahead.
We need to remember that our current balance does not tell the whole story.
The majority of our income comes through sponsorship, and funding streams that don’t show up as cash sitting in our account at this time.
After an event, be it bingo, quizzes, sales from our stall, we always let people know the net profit figure.
I hope this has addressed your concerns.
There has never been any intention to hide anything, or to be evasive. Quite the opposite.
I hope this demonstrates how dependent we are on local businesses, potential sponsors, and the generosity of the public.
May 2027 is going to be an amazing month for Spalding .As I say the Parade is due to take place on May 8th , however there is also the 60th anniversary of Barbecue 67, the world’s first pop festival that took place in Spalding, with festivities due to take place throughout May. So that means there will be considerable attention on our town.
So what we really need are more people to get involved between now and May, you can do that in many ways, including volunteering, sponsoring, donating, or coming along to our events, bingo’s,quizzes etc.
