💙🧸Arthur’s Legacy🧸💙
Here at Beach Dubbin’, we are incredibly lucky to have the most amazing volunteers who are made up of our wonderful friends and family who help make the show what it is each year. Among them are Laura and Rhys, who have been part of the Beach Dubbin’ journey since day one. Their unwavering support, kindness, and dedication to the team have made them hugely valued members of our BD Family.
Last year, Laura and Rhys experienced the unimaginable heartbreak of unexpectedly losing their beautiful little boy, Arthur.
A loss so profound sent shockwaves through all of us who know and love them.
Even whilst navigating such devastating grief, Laura and Rhys still stood beside the team at the show last year, bringing with them Arthur-Bear who’s a beautiful memory bear in Arthur’s honour, proudly dressed in his very own tiny Beach Dubbin’ t-shirt, and even enjoying a special ride in Humphrey the camper.
In the wake of such sudden heartbreak, we as a team wanted to honour Arthur’s memory in a way that reflected the light, love, happiness, and joy he brought into the world during his precious time here earthside.
Through the incredible kindness and generosity of everyone who sponsors, trades, volunteers, and attends Beach Dubbin’, donations have now been made in Arthur’s name to causes that will continue to support and help others for years to come.
While nothing can ever fill the space Arthur has left behind, there is comfort in knowing that his memory will live on through the difference these donations will make in the lives of children, families, animals, and the community around us.
Together, alongside Laura and Rhys, we are turning heartbreak into something meaningful, ensuring Arthur’s name continues to bring light into the world.
Laura and Rhys shared this with us:
“Arthur came into our lives when we least expected him to but he was the greatest gift of all.
We were so lucky with his first year. He slept so well and he brought so much love in to the house. He had the cheekiest smile and his laughter was infectious.
He then started to walk and everything was an adventure. He loved playing with his nursery friends, watching Hey Duggee, singing along to Miss Rachel and his favourite of all...wheels on the bus!
A few days after his 2nd birthday, all of our lives changed when he fell asleep forever. Sadly, we still don't have an answer as to why he was taken from us so soon.
Our aim for the rest of our lives is to keep his memory alive.
We can't thank the Beach Dubbin’ team enough for their generosity and the opportunity to help so many wonderful charities in Arthur's name.”
💙🧸Arthur’s Legacy🧸💙
Arthur’s Legacy has been allocated £10,000 from our show fund to be shared between the following incredible local charities and organisations:
• £3,000 to Rowans Hospice (Psychology & Bereavement Service)
- The Rowans provide an extraordinary range of support services to families and individuals, including the psychology and bereavement service accessed by Laura and Rhys. This invaluable support is available to anyone who needs it and has been a lifeline for so many people during their darkest moments.
• £3,000 to Sophie's Legacy
- An incredible charity providing practical and emotional support to families with children in hospital - from meals and toiletries to the countless little things parents never think about in a crisis. They are a safety net no family ever expects to need, but one that makes an immeasurable difference.
• £2,000 to 4Louis (operating within QA Hospital)
- 4Louis provides memory boxes for bereaved parents of babies and children, including handprints, footprints, locks of hair, and keepsakes that help families hold onto precious memories forever. Their work creates lasting connections during unimaginable heartbreak.
• £500 to CPPTD -City of Portsmouth Preserved Transport Depot
- As Wheels on the Bus was one of Arthur’s favourite songs, donating to this wonderful charity felt especially meaningful. They work tirelessly to rescue, restore, and preserve beautiful vintage buses for the Portsmouth community to continue enjoying for generations to come.
• £500 to Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital
- Known affectionately as “Squirrel” by those closest to him, Arthur had such a love for birds, hedgehogs, and wildlife. Supporting Brent Lodge, who rescue and care for injured wildlife of all kinds, felt like the perfect tribute to that gentle love of nature.
• £500 to Solent Seascape Project
- Arthur loved the sea, the water, and visiting aquariums. This donation will help protect and conserve seagrass meadows, oyster beds, seabird habitats, and salt marshes for years to come, ensuring the sea he loved so much continues to thrive.
Last but certainly not least, we will also be donating £500 towards the creation of a Wishing Tree within the Paediatric Department at QA Hospital. This special space will help soften the clinical environment and provide families with a place for reflection, comfort, and hope during difficult times.
May there be comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten. 💙
Thank you as always for supporting our show so that we can help make impacts like this.
