Sidney Road Lights

Sidney Road Lights Computerised Christmas lights synchronised to music. Free hot drinks, sweets and children’s gifts. The challenge was on! Our 2019 show was spectacular!

Back in 2001 when we moved to Southport we put up a few festoons of coloured lights for Christmas, these were the size of household bulbs in many different colours - they could have been stolen from Blackpool! We were one of the first in Southport to take Christmas lighting seriously, there were no £4.99 strings of LED lights back then! In the intervening years we've put up the odd string of light

s and then last year we made a tree from just a couple of strings of LED lights from The Range, it was incredible how many comments we got from such a simple thing. Spurred on by this we researched LED smart pixels which are small lights containing red, green and blue LEDs in the one 'bulb'. Each colour of LED in each pixel can be controlled by a bespoke controller and computer program. After months and months of work the 2016 display was revealed and drew crowds of spectators even better we raised over £200 for Freshfields. We increased to over 23,000 lights, raised almost £1600 for Freshfields Animal Rescue and had even more visitors. We even had Paul Crone and Kerrie Gosney from Granada Reports hosting a live outside broadcast from the show. The design team (Jaffa and I) have been working long our and spending all our money ready for the 2020 show which as you know was cancelled due to the pandemic. Moving on....the 2021 season has been a blast with unbelievable crowds for two nights at Halloween and a brilliant turnout for all the Christmas shows. Thanks to your generosity we beat our target and raised £2060 for Freshfields Animal Rescue. Now what’s next - watch this space as Jaffa and I get started!

Open to browse and buy in our shop/cafe this week Friday and Saturday, fully booked with daytime and evenings bookings and making until then!!

We’re sorry to say that due to work and family commitments sadly we won’t have the time to organise our lightshows this year.

Whilst we are all disappointed the break will give Jaffa and the Sidney Road Lights team time to design new shows for the 2024 season

St George’s Day Lightshow! One of our pop-up displays just for tonight Sunday 23rd April specially commissioned by one of our lovely neighbours.

The lights will be on until 21:30, it’s really getting too light in the evening now but Jaffa wants to squeeze one in for the coronation in a couple of weeks.

If you are able please head over to Freshfields Animal Rescue FB page and make a donation to recognise the efforts of our feline lighting team Jaffa, Ginger, Felix and Blossom throughout the year, they have all slept long hours to make it all happen 😺

As I’m shuffling stuff round in our prop store the Halloween bats fell down just missing Jaffa who reminded me what a fantastic time we had at Halloween 🎃

Generously sponsored by Southport Funeral Care in the shape of Ed and Len we had two jam packed nights of ghosts, tombstones, bats, black cats, spooky eyes all mixed in with billowing smoke and heavy music.

Would you believe we handed out 500 donuts all thanks to Ed and Len along with gallons of hot chocolate hand-made by chocolate supremo Debby Redfern who seemed to have two pairs of arms! 50kg of sweets were consumed over the two nights with barely a scrap of litter.

The best part - we raised almost £500 for Freshfields Animal Rescue. Sincere thanks for your enduring generosity ❤️
