Live local to Southend-on-Sea? Could you spare some time to join our friendly team?

We’re looking for volunteers who can regularly help out on Sundays and/or Wednesdays at The Jazz Centre UK.

Help us welcome visitors, run reception, serve refreshments, support our shop and get involved with our events and projects.

Sundays are relaxed and welcoming — a chance to engage with visitors, catch up on administration and help us develop new ideas to bring more people through the doors. There’s plenty of scope to make the role your own and help shape what Sundays at the Centre could become.

Wednesdays are a little different! Our lunchtime live music programme is going from strength to strength, with Wednesdays (and Thursdays) attracting increasingly large crowds. It’s putting pressure on our small team on these days, so an extra pair of hands would be hugely appreciated.

There’s never been a more exciting time to get involved!

Apply email: [email protected]

Or, visit us on a Wednesday or Sunday to meet the team and apply in person.

Looking to build your social media experience and strengthen your CV?

The Jazz Centre UK is looking for a creative and enthusiastic volunteer to help us grow our social media presence and share the world of jazz with new audiences.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in social media, marketing, communications, music, arts or events who would like to gain practical experience that they can add to their CV and future job applications.

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn directly from Matthew Fisher, an Accredited Marketer, gaining practical insight into professional marketing, social media and audience engagement. You will also gain charity, music and museum sector knowledge.

This is more than simply posting on social media — you’ll gain experience of content strategy, digital marketing and promoting a real cultural organisation.

Roger Beaujolais makes his long-awaited Jazz Centre UK debut on Saturday 22 August.

Widely regarded as one of Britain's finest vibraphonists, Roger brings an outstanding quartet featuring Robin Aspland on piano, Alec Dankworth on bass and Milo Fell on drums. Together they create music that is inventive, thoughtful and deeply engaging.

“There’s a sense here that this is a genuine ensemble enterprise: four men thinking as one. Theirs is lovely music – quite deep at times, often ruminative, but ultimately uplifting. A delight.” Peter Vacher, Jazzwise.

Join us for what promises to be a memorable afternoon of world-class jazz at The Jazz Centre UK.

Brand Nu Dolla: Celebrating the Legacy of Abdullah Ibrahim

Saturday, August 1st | 2:00 PM
Join us at The Jazz Centre UK for an afternoon with Brand Nu Dolla, a vibrant new ensemble dedicated to the rich musical legacy of South African pianist, composer, and bandleader Abdullah Ibrahim (formerly known as Dollar Brand).

Following Ibrahim’s recent passing, this performance pays homage to a body of work that remains among the most powerful and enduring in modern jazz—music so profound that Nelson Mandela once called him "our Mozart." Brand Nu Dolla brings a fresh, contemporary energy to these timeless compositions, bridging the roots of the genre with its evolving future.

Whether celebrating the masters who shaped the art form or showcasing the modern voices pushing it forward, The Jazz Centre UK remains your home for the full spectrum of jazz.

Tickets: £16 General Admission / £8 Student & Under 18
