👀 NOW OPEN: Lies and Truth by Jackie Eksi

A one-weekend-only pop-up exhibition inspired by the film Labyrinth, made from a number of sculptural elements which can be put together in multiple configurations.

📆 Open until Monday 22nd June 2026
📍 Crawford Room, God's House Tower

This new body of work was made possible thanks to Outside In, The Arts Society South Downs and Dr Andrew Edney Artist Bursary scheme.

“I’ve made elements of a labyrinth, inspired by the 1986 film of the same name. I wanted to create something quite large scale with play in perspective, size and dimensions as the films themes also play with those elements. So far I have:

The project has been therapeutic and cathartic in many ways: I’ve learned more about why the film and the project have been such an obsession. My mind-scape is a confusing space with multiple directions and distractions. The labyrinth reflects me, and I learn more about myself each time I engage it.

I can relate with the disorientation of a staircase feeling like it’s about to disappear underneath my feet. The forgetting, the distractions, to hide within a fantasy. The lack of feeling in control. Until the end where she remembered “you have no power over me” and awareness that I give my power away in order to fit in. There’s hidden meaning in the words, the story and indeed the stage set it takes place in.”

Any plans this weekend? 👀

Come on down and explore House of Revision / House of Repair by Uma Breakdown, now on display at God’s House Tower. Free entry!

A project about love, restraint, liberty, pain, growth and collapse. Commissioned by ‘a space’ arts for God’s House Tower, the exhibition explores alternative routes through time, drawing on fact and fiction to reimagine the past and speculate about the future.

Working across drawing, fiction, animation, code and sculpture, the artist revisits the building’s past as a Bridewell, an institution established in the 18th Century to house ‘idlers, vagrants and prostitutes’. The project asks what a place of spiritual and physical repair for people seen as ‘other’ might be, if freed from the authority of state and church that underpinned these ‘Houses of Correction’ and the subsequent systems they have evolved into since?

Using the unique history and architecture of God’s House Tower, as well as the artist’s home of the North East, House of Revision / House of Repair imagines a sacred grove for fringe cultures and unconventional communities with alternative belief systems, such as ancient outlawed religions and pre-modern travelling performance groups, centering communal care at the edges of legality.

📅 On display until Monday 27th July (open Thursday–Monday)
