Lucie Smith Art Tutor

Lucie Smith Art Tutor Experienced artist and learning facilitator, offering art classes to adults, children and young people. Hi, I'm Lucie. I can't wait to start working with you!

Currently working from Southampton and Fareham, Hampshire. taplink.cc/luciesmithart | also facebook.com/luciesmithart Whether you’re looking to build your portfolio, want to refine your skills or are completely new to art, I’d love to help! As a practicing artist with a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, I am highly knowledgeable in the fields of Contemporary Art, Design and Craft. From ph

otography and sculpture to sewing and painting, I can help you learn new techniques and develop existing skills, whilst encouraging you to explore art practice from a variety of alternative perspectives. I am fully insured and DBS checked, registered with the update service. I offer sessions to adults, children and young people covering the following:

- Painting (abstract, oil, acrylic, watercolour)
- Photography (analogue & digital)
- Film & sound
- Sculpture & assemblage
- Line-work, charcoal & expressive drawing
- Textile practices (basic sewing, embroidery, machine sewing, needle felting)
- Printmaking
- Mixed media
- Curation
- Graphic design
- Contemporary art theory & research

I have 2+ years teaching experience leading workshops, clubs, 1:1 classes and group lessons, working with children, adults and organisations in Hampshire and Devon. I approach teaching from a relatively relaxed perspective, listening to students' interests and needs from the outset in order to tailor the content of lessons to enhance and develop their skills. I find it extremely important to approach art education from a broad-ranging perspective, as no two artists are the same and so shouldn't be expected to practice from one point of view. I believe it is important for art practice to be fluid, so that concepts and ideas can be realised naturally, therefore utilising a range of mediums and methods. Please note that my fee is variable depending on whether sessions take place in person or online. All fees include the cost of travel and prep time.

✨ i’ve been shortlisted for a community arts bursary and need your help!

as part of a space arts’ international women’s day ‘pitch your project’, alongside five other brilliant project leaders, the vote is now open to the public to decide who should win the £2,000 bursary to make their project happen.

my project, in collaboration with fellow ZEST Collective artist L. Gre, (extra)ordinary archives is a community arts project which centres the voices of womxn by connecting their everyday lives experiences with historical archives and creative activities.

the project revolves around a series of workshops led by Gre and I, including creative writing, sound recording, storytelling and assemblage using objects, photographs and other memorabilia that explore participants’ identities and lives.

the project will culminate in a publicly accessible, multi-sensory exhibition and creative archive. shaped by participants’ desires, the curation itself will symbolise and highlight womxn’s lived experiences.

i’d be so grateful if you could please vote for us & share with your networks. the vote closes at 9am on friday 13th march.

in classic me fashion everything is happening all at once and i’ve only just had time to shout about this exciting opportunity that i’ve been shortlisted for !

and I have been chosen to pitch our womxn-focused community project THIS FRIDAY at alongside five other artists, where you’ll have the chance to watch us all pitch by either attending in person or viewing online. you can then choose who should win the £2,000 grant to make the project happen.

all of the projects are brilliant so you’ll have your work cut out trying to decide who wins but either way, I am very grateful to be part of the shortlist and to be at the beginning of an exciting collaboration.

about the project:

(extra)ordinary archives is a community arts project which amplifies the voices of ordinary womxn - a term that includes cisgender women, trans women, nonbinary people, and all who identify with womanhood - by connecting their everyday, lived experiences with historical archives and creative activities.

the project will be centred around a series of workshops led by gre and I, covering creative writing, sound recording, storytelling and assemblage using objects, photographs and other memorabilia that explore participants’ identities and lives.

the project will culminate in a publicly accessible, multi-sensory exhibition and creative archive. shaped by participants’ desires, the curation itself will symbolise and highlight womxn’s lived experiences. the exhibition will challenge traditional archival practices and demonstrate that womxn’s everyday stories are equally valuable to community memory as that which is deemed so in ‘official’ records.

the project pays particular attention to those whose stories are underrepresented in formal archives and heritage settings, including working-class womxn, womxn of the global majority, migrants, carers, and elders, although this is not fixed or exclusionary and we welcome all those who identify with the project to join in.

we invite you to be part of a living, breathing archive 🫁📝

🌿 Folklore & Foraging: Yule Wreath Workshop

Sunday 7th December 11am - 2:30pm

Join me this weekend for a wreath workshop with a twist at Sholing Valley nature reserve. Together we'll connect with the land, the season and the stories that grow between them.

✨ Begin with a comforting cup of mulled winter warmer before wandering through the Sholing Valley nature reserve - gathering natural treasures as we go.

We'll explore the ancient folkloric history of the yule-period and its associated botanicals, as well as the origins of wreath-making as a timeless folk practice.

🌲 You'll be guided through crafting your own seasonal wreath - using materials you've foraged and a natural base which will be provided, ready to take home to hang on your door.

🌙 To close, there will be an optional "pick a card" oracle reading to offer reflection and guidance as we head into the final part of the year.

Spaces are limited - book yours by clicking the link in comments below.
