Hello everyone! Something Comedy is back with another solo show from Andrew White at The Bookshop Alehouse on Tuesday 9th July!

Andrew White ‘Young, Gay and a Third Thing’

Andrew White has been described by Joe Lycett as “very exciting and very funny” and by teachers as “a pleasure to teach” (gay). He performs year-round on all of the country’s top comedy stages, from famous clubs to packed out festival tents, and even an annual metal detecting rally! Away from his live work, he has written for TV shows like Mock The Week and amassed an online following with over 1m likes and 8m views on platforms like TikTok.

Andrew White will be joined by our regular host and Something Comedy favourite Verity Babbs as support.

‘‘Verity Babbs is a Southampton-based writer and presenter from Northampton. She graduated with a History of Art degree from the University of Oxford and her work focuses on making the art world more accessible and introducing fine art to new audiences. Verity is the founder of ‘Art Laughs' - art-themed comedy events which made their Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2022. Babbs is also a stand-up ("dizzyingly entertaining" Cherwell), sketch ("wild and hilarious" Oxford Opening Night), and improvised comedian. During her time at the University of Oxford, she was co-president of the Oxford R***e and performed regularly with the Oxford Imps ("mention must go to Verity Babbs... a few of the best gags of the day" Broadway Baby).

hello everyone! something comedy is back with a solo show from nate kitch at god’s house tower on wednesday may 1st!

Nate Kitch ‘In a State of Flux’ (Edinburgh Preview)

The basically-award-winning*, ‘real WTF comic’ (Chortle.co.uk) brings an hour show to the people of Southampton in his run up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer. Expect: poems, bags, chess, big ideas, poems and bigger bags, small ideas, paper, hope and diagrams. It’ll be like if Kazimir Malevich and James Joyce and/or Samuel Beckett did something (probably).

‘Bold... Truly stood out’ **** (List).
‘Hints of Simon Munnery... Something very special’ (BeyondTheJoke.co.uk).
‘So special and inventive it’s frustrating’ (Jin Hao Li).
**** (Scotsman).
*So You Think You’re Funny? Finalist 2021.

nate will be joined by bristolian comedian matt hobs as support.

‘Matt Hobs has been performing on the comedy circuit since 2012. Matt is a proud Bristolian, scientist, and silly sausage.’

“Hobs’ explanations are equal to that of the best lecturers, and undoubtedly funnier... a very likeable leading comic with a talent for multimedia comedy” - The Wee Review

introducing our third act of the evening Emily Bampton 👋

‘Your favourite chaotic, bisexual oversharer, Emily Bampton, is a dynamic new voice in stand up. Having already been featured by Next Up Comedy alongside Esther Manito and Luisa Omielan, soared through to the Semi-Final of Cocoa Butter Club's Trailblazer Competition, and has been described as "a highlight on any line up" by Queen Maker Comedy. She can also be found performing bold and captivating improv with the legendary Oxford Imps.’

‘Pravanya Pillay is a stand up comedian and writer who delivers surreal, observational comedy from a unique perspective. She is like if Diana, Princess of Wales, did comedy. introducing our first act of the evening Alice India 👋

‘Alice (2Northdown Finalist 2021) is everyone’s favourite Youngest Cousin At The Wedding. Performing stand-up as a teenager in lieu of having friends, Alice has been taking the UK comedy scene by storm and even has a friend or two (and several national competition finals) to show for it. Expertly disarming, always charming.’

we are very excited to announce our first ever solo show with caitriona dowden on february 13th at the bookshop alehouse.

‘As a lapsed Catholic obsessed with the Middle Ages, Caitriona Dowden spends a lot of time thinking about saints. In fact, she is pretty sure that she has what it takes to become one, and has decided that the best way to make that happen is through the medium of a standup comedy show. She invites you to join her cult in her first solo hour, complete with graphs, religious guilt, and floating nuns.’

caitriona dowden will be joined by fellow oxford comedian alex farrow as support.

‘Alex Farrow is a comedian and former philosophy teacher using stand-up comedy to explore the funny side of philosophy. His show Bat Chat was the first stand-up show of 2021 and formed the basis for his critically acclaimed show ‘Philosophy Pig’. His philosophy themed solo shows have sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019, 2021 and 2022’

introducing our third act of the evening William Stone 👋

‘William Stone is a stand-up, comic actor and writer. Hailing from a nondescript northern working-class market town, William's whimsical one-liners won him a spot in the 2018 BBC New Comedy Award final, the Leicester Square New Act of the Year Competition final and the 2Northdown New Act of the year final 2020. His original, punchy gags combined with his well-crafted 'confident idiot' stage persona set him out from other one-liners as a truly unique comedy performer.’
