South Shields Bangladesh Welfare Association, Bangladeshi Caterers Association, Ocean Road Community Association, Sangini, Create & Connect CIC, CAST and South Tyneside Local Councillors with support from South Tyneside Council, The Customs House & The Cultural Spring. A Mela is a festival for everyone that celebrates food, music and different cultures. On Sunday 20th August 2023, we organised our first Ocean Road Mela, which followed the steps on a celebration that took year a year before that, to celebrate 50 years of Bangladeshi Independence in South Tyneside and on. These were both very successful family evente, with over 2,000 people enjoying food, music, live performances, parades, workshops, games and entertainment. The Ocean Road Mela and celebrates all cultures of local communities and it is for everyone to enjoy. Save the date and see you on the streets!
